The Independence Events Center is a 5,800-seat multi-purpose arena in Independence, Missouri, United States, a suburb of Kansas City. It was opened... in November 2009. The Jackson County Courthouse in Independence, Missouri is located on Independence Square at Main & Maple Street in Independence. In 1922, Harry... S. Truman won election as county judge for eastern Jackson County as a candidate of the Tom Pendergast faction of the Democratic Party. He failed to be re-elected in 1924, but, then won election as presiding judge in 1926. Truman served in this position in effect as county commissioner for eight years. He divided his time between the two Jackson County courthouses: the one in Independence and the Jackson County Courthouse in Kansas City. No county offices are currently in the building. County offices have moved a few blocks away to the Independence Courthouse Annex, located at 308 W. Kansas. The Jackson County Historical Society office and archives are housed in the building. It is currently undergoing a massive renovation to restore President Truman's office and courtroom, and to fix major structural issues.

Truman Home , 219 North Delaware Street, Independence, Missouri, would be the home of Harry S Truman, after his marriage to Bess Wallace, on June 28, 1919 until his death on December 26, 1972. Bess Truman's maternal grandfather, George Porterfield Gates, built the house over a period of years from 1867 to 1885. Bess's mother, Madge Gates Wallace, wanted the couple to live there with her. Bess had lived with her mother after Bess's father, David Willock Wallace, committed suicide in 1903. Bess and her mother initially moved into the house with Bess's grandparents, George and Elizabeth Gates. Also in 1919, Harry was putting all of his money into the men's clothing store of Truman & Jacobson open at 104 West 12th St.

Truman, she was "a witty, hard-working Midwestern girl with singing talent who was neither particularly pretty nor terribly plain." Born in Independence, Missouri, she was christened Mary Margaret Truman but was called Margaret from early childhood. She attended school in Independence until her father's 1934 election to the U.S. Senate, after which she split time between schools in Washington D.C. and Independence. In 1942 she matriculated at George Washington University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi , and earning a B.A. in History degree in 1946. In June 1944 she christened the battleship USS Missouri at Brooklyn Navy Yard; in 1986 she spoke at the ship's recommissioning. On April 21, 1956 Truman married New York Times reporter Clifton Daniel in Independence; he died in 2000.

Robert Curtis Lewis was a founding member of the New Wave band Devo. He played basketball briefly for Bobby Knight at Cuyahoga Falls High School,... was a National Merit Scholar at Kent State University, and the first student at the university to earn a degree in anthropology, graduating shortly after the Kent State shootings on May 4, 1970. In 1971, Lewis, along with Devo co-founder Gerald Casale and Peter Gregg, recorded three proto-Devo songs, I Been Refused, I Need A Chick and Auto Mowdown, on primitive recording equipment located over Guido's Pizza Shop in Kent, Ohio. Lewis and Gerald Casale were the originators of the concept of de-evolution, writing seminal tracts in the now-defunct LA Staff, and later formed the band with Mark Mothersbaugh. Lewis studied poetry with Black Mountain poet Ed Dorn, British poet Eric Mottram and Robert Bertholf, an English professor at Kent who later was named the curator of the poetry collection and Charles D. Abbot Scholar at the University at Buffalo.

During World War I, Truman served in combat in France as an artillery officer in his National Guard unit. After the war, he joined the Democratic Party political machine of Tom Pendergast in Kansas City, Missouri. He was elected a county official and in 1934 United States senator. After he had gained national prominence as head of the wartime Truman Committee, Truman replaced vice president Henry A. Wallace as Roosevelt's running mate in 1944. Truman faced many challenges in domestic affairs. The disorderly postwar reconversion of the economy of the United States was marked by severe shortages, numerous strikes, and the passage of the Taft–Hartley Act over his veto. He confounded all predictions to win election in 1948, helped by his famous Whistle Stop Tour of rural America.

He has had a recurring role in the CBS weekly drama series Medium and has directed several episodes. Howard has extensive stage credits, including a role in the 2009 revival of August Wilson's Joe Turner's Come and Gone on Broadway. He also starred in and directed the films Big Bad Love and Dawn Anna, both co-written with James Howard, his brother. His wife, Debra Winger, stars in both films. He has two sons, one from a previous marriage and one with Winger .

Ralph Sylvester Peer was an American talent scout, recording engineer and record producer in the field of music in the 1920s and 1930s. Peer... pioneered remote recording of music when in June 1923 he took remote recording equipment south to Atlanta, Georgia to record regional music outside the recording studio in such places as hotel rooms, ballrooms, or empty warehouses. Peer, born in Independence, Missouri, spent some years working for Columbia Records, in Kansas City, Missouri until 1920 when he was hired as recording director of General Phonograph's OKeh Records label in New York. In the same year he supervised the recording of Mamie Smith's "Crazy Blues", reputed to be the first blues recording specifically aimed at the African-American market. In 1924 he supervised the first commercial recording session in New Orleans, Louisiana, recording jazz, blues, and gospel music groups there. He is also credited with what is often called the first country music recording, Fiddlin' John Carson's "Little Old Log Cabin In The Lane"/"That Old Hen Cackled and The Rooster's Goin' To Crow".

Chris Pitman is an American musician best known for his involvement with hard rock band Guns N' Roses. A multi-instrumentalist, Pitman is known to... play keyboards, guitar and drums, in addition to his role as a lead or backing vocalist. Pitman currently fronts alternative rock band SexTapes and performs with Guns N' Roses, and previously worked with such bands as Lusk, Replicants and Tool. Pitman studied at the Art Institute of Kansas City and the University of Missouri. In 1993, Pitman worked with the controversial artist Les Levine. The following year, Pitman worked with Dr. Dre in Dre's home studio. He also joined Tool on tour and played synth on Tool's album Ænima. In 1995, he appeared on the album Bourgeois Kitten by Blinker the Star. Pitman was co-founder of Los Angeles-based art coalition 'Priory of the North,' which focuses on conceptual/public art and works primarily with oil painting, lithography, oils, and metal. His Land/Environment projects have been onsite in various Midwest regional farmland sites in Lafayette County and Johnson County, Missouri.
