The Republic of Zulia was a short lived country in South America that has declared independence from Venezuela in three occasions. First in January 28, 1821, second in February 1863 and third in June 7, 1916. By 2006, the demands of more autonomy by governor Manuel Rosales of the Venezuelan state of Zulia triggered fears that the oil-rich state declare independence once again.
