Interscope Communications was a motion picture production company founded in 1982 by Ted Field. Its divisions included Interscope Records . In 1992, PolyGram bought a controlling interest in Interscope's film division. A couple years earlier, Interscope started a distribution deal with The Walt Disney Company's film divisions . PolyGram handled international distribution, while Disney handled U.S. distribution. The Disney partnership ended in 1997. In 1999, after PolyGram was bought by Universal, Interscope's film unit was retained as a subsidiary of Universal Studios until it was shut down... in 2003. Interscope Records, however, still exists as part of Universal Music Group .
