Carver–Hawkeye Arena is a 15,500-seat multi-purpose indoor arena located in Iowa City, Iowa. Opened in 1983, it is the home court for The... University of Iowa Hawkeyes men's and women's basketball teams, as well as the university's wrestling, gymnastics, and volleyball teams. It was named for the late industrialist Roy J. Carver of Muscatine, Iowa, a prominent statewide booster, who donated $9.2 million to The University of Iowa before his death in 1981. Prior to the arena's opening, Iowa's athletic teams played at the Iowa Field House. Entirely funded by private contributions, the arena was expected to be open for the 1982–83 school year, but weather slowed construction to the point where the first event was held on January 3, 1983. Iowa's wrestling team defeated Oklahoma and two days later, the men's basketball team played their first game – a loss to Michigan State – in the new arena. Outside of Hawkeye athletic events, the arena has also served as the host for Big Ten and National Collegiate Athletic Association wrestling championships, as well as the 1984 U.S. Olympic wrestling trials and 1984 U.S. Olympic men's and women's basketball exhibitions.

The Iowa Field House is a multi-purpose arena in Iowa City, Iowa. Opened in 1927, it held up to 13,365 people at its height. It was home to the Iowa... Hawkeyes men's basketball team before they moved to the newly-constructed Carver-Hawkeye Arena in 1983. The building was a regional site for the NCAA Basketball Tournament four times, in 1954, 1956, 1964 and 1966. Since the basketball team's departure, parts of the arena have been converted into classroom and office space for the university's Health and Sport Studies program and Recreational Services department. The swimming and gymnastics teams also continue to host events at the Field House. On March 25, 2010, President Barack Obama delivered a speech in the facility on the landmark health care reform bill he signed two days earlier.

The Thomas C. Carson House is a historic house in Iowa City, Iowa. It is currently in use as the sorority house of the University of Iowa chapter of... Alpha Phi, and is thus also known as the Carson-Alpha Phi House. It is claimed that the first commercial radio station in Iowa City broadcast from the third floor. The house was built in 1875 in Second Empire style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Francis Harper , known professionally as Hill Harper, is an American film, television and stage actor, and author. An alumnus of Harvard Law School,... he is best known for his portrayal of Dr. Sheldon Hawkes on the CBS drama television series CSI: NY. Harper was born in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Harry Harper, a psychiatrist, and Marilyn Hill, who was one of the first black practicing anesthesiologists in the United States. He has been acting since the age of 7. Harper graduated magna cum laude from Brown University and also graduated with a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School, and a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. During his years at Harvard, he was a full-time member of Boston's Black Folks Theater Company, one of the oldest and most acclaimed black theater troupes in the country. While a student at Harvard, Harper befriended President Barack Obama. Harper and Obama met on the basketball court and became good friends during their first year as law students. Although Harper obtained a J.D. and M.P.A., he chose to use neither and instead moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.

Morris, the son of Greg Morris and Leona Morris , was born on April 4, 1959 . He is also the younger brother of actress Iona Morris. Morris is also a practitioner of Wing Chun kung fu under Sifu Hawkins Cheung. Morris' first acting role was as a child when he appeared in the 1966 Star Trek episode "Miri". Star Trek was, at the time, shot at the same studio that produced Mission: Impossible, where his father was working. He made his feature film debut in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock in a small role and later guest-starred on Babylon 5, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Trek: Voyager. In the mid-1980s, he portrayed law student Tyrone Jackson on the CBS daytime drama The Young and the Restless. During a major storyline, his character used heavy theatrical make-up to appear Caucasian, in order to go undercover to expose an organized crime organization.

Jake Johannsen is an American comedian. Johannsen attended Iowa State University in the early 1980s, originally majoring in veterinary medicine, and... then later changing to chemical engineering. He left after three years in college and relocated to San Francisco, California in order to pursue a career in comedy. Johannsen made his debut at Cobbs Comedy Club in San Francisco, and by 1986 had won the 11th Annual San Francisco International Comedy Competition. During the 1990s, Johannsen starred in his own HBO comedy special, This'll Take About an Hour, which was listed as one of the Ten Best Television Shows by People Magazine in 1992. In 1994, he was nominated as "Best Male Stand-Up Comedian" for the 1994 American Comedy Awards. In 2010, Johannsen starred in his second Comedy Special titled I Love You, which aired on Showtime and was directed and produced by The Aristocrats editor Emery Emery. Johannsen also was the star headliner of the inaugural Iowa Comedy Festival. Johannsen performed October 16, 2010 at People's Court in downtown Des Moines to cap off the four-day event.

Laura Leighton is an American actress. She is best known for the role of Sydney Andrews, introduced in the 1990s television series Melrose Place.... She reprised the role in the 2009 series of the same name. In 2010, she joined the cast of the television series Pretty Little Liars, playing Ashley Marin. In the early 1990s, she took her first major acting role as Sydney Andrews in the prime time series Melrose Place. The part was originally intended for only two episodes in season 1, but was developed into a full-time role for the subsequent seasons 2 to 5 . During breaks on filming of Melrose Place, Leighton starred in television films, including In the Name of Love: A Texas Tragedy as Laurette Wilder, a woman from the wrong side of the tracks who falls for a rich boy, much to the disgust of his grandparents. He moved to New York City with his family in 1977 as he began pursuing his professional career. Toby is one of eight children. Grant Young was the drummer for the alternative rock band Soul Asylum from 1984-1995. He replaced Pat Morley shortly after the release of Soul... Asylum's debut album, Say What You Will, ClarenceKarl Sold the Truck in 1984. Young's last appearance on a Soul Asylum record album was the breakthrough album], Grave Dancers Union. He was replaced in the middle of the recording sessions by Sterling Campbell, who has also since left the band and is primarily associated with David Bowie, as part of his touring bands. Young has said that he played on five or six of the songs on the album. He did not, however, record on the band's biggest hit, "Runaway Train" but did initially play it with Soul Asylum in concerts. After his departure from the band, Young and his wife, Catherine owned and operated a resort in the Boundary Waters region near Ely, Minnesota, right next to the United States/Canadian border. They have since sold the resort, and have operated a retail business in Ely, but since, both of them have divorced, and moved back to the Twin Cities.
