It Happened in Athens is a 1962 Greek/American CinemaScope comedy film released by 20th Century Fox. The film starred newcomer Trax Colton and sex symbol Jayne Mansfield, and co-starred Nico Minardos and Bob Mathias. Filmed in the fall of 1960, in Greece, on a reasonable budget, the film was originally titled The Marathon Runner and the Actress. The film was released nearly two years later, in June of 1962, and was Jayne Mansfield's last film with 20th Century Fox before her career setback to low-budgeted British melodramas and comedies. In the film, Mansfield's top billed, but only appears... in a supporting role. Trax Colton stars in the feature, with Mansfield being billed above him in order to promote the film and to introduce Colton being billed under a top-name star. Both Nico Minardos and Bob Mathias were added as supporting characters at the last minute when the appearances of both Lt. Alexi and Coach Graham were lengthened, to become more than bit players. In 1896, it is announced that the first Olympic Games will be revived in Athens. A young shepherd, Spiridon Loues, decides to enter the 26-mile marathon.
