The Houston Astros are a Major League Baseball team located in Houston, Texas. They are currently a member of the National League Central Division. In 2013, the Astros will move to the American League West Division. The Astros have played their home games at Minute Maid Park since 2000. The Astros... were established as the Houston Colt .45s in 1962. The current name was adopted three years later when they moved into the Astrodome, the world's first domed sports stadium. The name references Houston's role as the center of the U.S. Space Program. The Astros have one World Series appearance, in 2005 against the Chicago White Sox. The Houston Astros are a member of the National League Central Division. In late 2011, Houston businessman Jim Crane purchased the Astros from Drayton McLane. As a condition of the sale, Major League Baseball required a move to the American League West Division, effective for the 2013 season. After over fifty years in the National League, this move is unpopular with many Astros fans. Houston officials had been making efforts to bring a Major League team to Texas before the expansion in 1962.

There were 2,339 housing units at an average density of 602.0 per square mile . The racial makeup of the city was 95.74% White, 0.76% African American, 0.17% Native American, 0.44% Asian, 1.70% from other races, and 1.19% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.65% of the population. There were 24,158 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% were married couples living together, 10.
