Jackson is the capital and the most populous city of the US state of Mississippi. It is one of two county seats of Hinds County ,. The region which is now the city of Jackson was historically part of the large territory occupied by the Choctaw Nation, the last of the indigenous peoples who had inhabited the area for thousands of years.
