Game Overview

Building on the successful model of James Bond 007: Agent Under Fire, EA promises an all-new James Bond adventure with all the familiar ingredients: heart-pounding first-person action, glamorous locales around the world, beautiful women, cool gadgets and an evil villain. Lending even greater authenticity to this, EAs third Bond title for a Nintendo console, is Pierce Brosnan, who is lending his world-famous good looks to NightFire. Intriguingly, Zoe Nightshade from Agent Under Fire puts in an encore appearance. As Bond, players will operate in the Austrian Alps, a Japanese high-rise, underwater in the South Pacific, and even in a zero-gravity space station to defeat evil criminal mastermind Rafael Drake.

The Bottom Line

NightFire takes inspiration from several of the best 007 moments across the years. In the completely original storyline, the super-spy finds himself on the trail of a corrupt businessman who's hatched a plan to use a secret weapon to destroy the world. Bond's quest to stop the terrorist before he can do any harm takes him across the world through a variety of stealth and action stages, deep into the ocean, and soaring into space. Most of the game (including the four-player multiplayer mode) is played in the first-person perspective, but there are also racing action stages that utilize the Need for Speed game engine.

Those purely looking for a first-person shooter won't find that NightFire is the best choice around, but as a Bond game, NightFire successfully re-creates the style, presentation, and action of its source material.

Does a great job bringing in the Bond-spy factor into the first-person shooter genre, and is a fun, although short, game.

while I admire EA's decision to mingle several gameplay types into one package, I would have preferred it if NightFire were a first-person shooter and nothing else because frankly, that's where it excels.
