James Richard Laurinaitis is an American football linebacker for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League . Laurinaitis was a three-year starting middle linebacker at Ohio State University, and was a three-time consensus All-American. He was selected by the St. Louis Rams with the 35th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He is the son of former professional wrestler Joe Laurinaitis, better known as Animal, one half of the tag team The Road Warriors. He is also the nephew of John Laurinaitis, who is the Executive Vice President of Talent Relations for WWE and currently is the... on-screen General Manager of both Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown. Laurinaitis was touted in the NHL as a second or third round pick, but teams didn't draft him because it was thought that he was more likely to pursue a football career. While he was a successful hockey player, having been named a team captain as a senior, football was arguably his best sport. He was named Defensive Mr. Football in Minnesota in 2004. That season, he helped lead Wayzata High School to the state championship game in Class 5A with 193 tackles, including 28 for loss and five sacks.
