The Zomba Group of Companies was a music group and division which was owned by and operated under Sony Music Entertainment. The division was renamed to Jive Label Group in 2009 and was placed under the RCA/Jive Label Group umbrella. In 2011, the RCA/Jive Label Group was split in half. Multiple... Jive Label Group artists were moved to Epic Records while others stayed with Jive as it moved under the RCA Music Group. In October 2011 Jive Records was shut down and their artists were moved to RCA Records. Founded independently in the mid-seventies by Clive Calder and Ralph Simon, the group has had interests in music release, distribution, production, publishing, equipment rental, recording studios, and artist management. Though the financial structure and annual revenue of Zomba during the company's independent period was probably only known to CEO Clive Calder , Zomba was widely regarded as the most successful of the independent music companies.

Ca$hville Records is an American independent record label based in Nashville, Tennessee founded by rapper Young Buck. Due to a fued with rapper 50 Cent dating back to late 2007, David Brown would later have to change the name from G-Unit South to Cashville Records because Brown was longer be... allowed to used the G-Unit logo/name to distribute his music. The label has signed such acts as The Outlawz, C-Bo, Lil Scrappy and more. In 2008, The Outlawz were the latest addition to Cashville Records, joining veteran rapper C-Bo, who became a part of the label's roster in January. In late 2011 it was rumoured that Lil' Kim was signing with the label. She would later confirm this in an interview stating that "If y'all don’t know, this my boy right here. G-Unit South, that’s where it’s at And I’m family too, down with the G-Unit camp. We got surprises for y'all." she said in an interview with Rap-Up.com. As of 2012 nothing has materialized yet. Rapper Mystikal also confirms that he himself almost signed to the label in 2012 after he revealed that he got many offers while in prison, including a very attractive deal from Cashville Records.

RCA/Jive Label Group was a short-lived American record label group, owned by Sony Music Entertainment and representing the merger of the RCA Music Group and Jive Label Group. The umbrella group was formed in 2007 under the name BMG Label Group, was rebranded as RCA/Jive Label Group in 2009. In July... 2011 it was finally dissolved into two separate labels in 2011: the RCA Music Group and Epic Records which took Jive subsidiaries until October 2011 when it shut down Jive Records along with Arista Records and J Records. Those artists on those three labels were moved to the "rebranded" RCA Records. RCA/Jive configuration began as the BMG Label Group during the last year of the Sony BMG merger. The group was officially formed in September 2007 when Bertelsmann restructured their RCA and Zomba groups into one entity bearing the BMG branding. Bob Anderson and Kevin Twitchell led the sales department for the new group, and John Fleckenstein was named senior VP of international. By early 2008, the BMG Label Group was said to consist of RCA Records, Jive Records, J Records, LaFace, Arista, Volcano Entertainment, Verity, GospoCentric and Fo Yo Soul.

Rhythm and blues, often abbreviated to R&B, is a genre of popular African-American music that originated in the 1940s. The term was originally... used by record companies to describe recordings marketed predominantly to urban African Americans, at a time when "urbane, rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat" was becoming more popular. The term has subsequently had a number of shifts in meaning. In the early 1950s, the term rhythm and blues was frequently applied to blues records. Starting in the mid-1950s, after this style of music contributed to the development of rock and roll, the term "R&B" became used to refer to music styles that developed from and incorporated electric blues, as well as gospel and soul music. By the 1970s, rhythm and blues was used as a blanket term for soul and funk. In the 1980s, a newer style of R&B developed, becoming known as "Contemporary R&B". Jerry Wexler of Billboard magazine coined the term "rhythm and blues" in 1948 as a musical marketing term in the United States. It replaced the term "race music", which originally came from within the black community, but was deemed offensive in the postwar world.
