Stephen Thomas Knight MA PhD . F.A.H.A., F.E.A. was until September 2011 Distinguished Research Professor at Cardiff University in the School of... English, Communications and Philosophy. He is now, in retirement, Honorary Research Professor of English Literature at the University of Melbourne in the School of Culture and Communication. His areas of expertise include English literature, Medieval literature, Cultural studies, Crime fiction, Robin Hood and Australian matters. He has published a large number of books that have addressed these issues, and is best known in the public sphere for his contributions to modern-day debate on the legend of Robin Hood, King Arthur, and on medieval cultural studies. In his most recent work, Mysteries of the Cities , Knight describes and analyses the massive criminal narratives that from the 1840s onwards captured the complexities and anxieties of the new mercantile metropolis, from Paris and London through to Philadelphia, New York and Melbourne. Knight was educated at Bournemouth Grammar School and at Jesus College, Oxford.

William Boyd, CBE is a novelist and screenwriter. Boyd was born in Accra, Ghana, and spent his early life in Ghana and Nigeria. He was educated at... Gordonstoun school; and then the University of Nice, France, the University of Glasgow, and finally Jesus College, Oxford. Between 1980 and 1983 he was a lecturer in English at St Hilda's College, Oxford, and it was while he was there that his first novel, A Good Man in Africa , was published. He was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2005. He lives in London. Although his novels have been short-listed for major prizes, he has never had the same publicity as his contemporaries. Boyd was selected in 1983 as one of the 20 "Best of Young British Novelists" in a promotion run by Granta magazine and the Book Marketing Council.

William 'Bill' Cronon is the Frederick Jackson Turner and Vilas Research Professor of History, Geography, and Environmental Studies at the... University of Wisconsin–Madison. As of January 2012 he is the President of the American Historical Association. Born in New Haven, Connecticut, he obtained a D.Phil from Jesus College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar. . Cronon holds a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and an M.A. , M.Phil. , and Ph.D. from Yale University. In July, 1985, Cronon was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship. Cronon was Wayne Pacelle's advisor at Yale in the 1980's. Cronon serves on the board of directors for The Trust for Public Land, a national land conservation group. He also sits on the governing council of the Wilderness Society. A noted environmental historian, Cronon is probably best known as the author of Changes in the Land: Indians, Colonists, and the Ecology of New England , a work based on a seminar paper he wrote for Edmund Morgan at Yale.
