Frere Hall is one of the few well-preserved buildings from the days of the British Raj that still exists in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It was built in... honour of Sir Henry Bartle Edward Frere , who was known for promoting economic development in Karachi. As of 2011, Frere hall is open to the public again. On Sundays there is a book bazaar in the courtyards where it is possible to purchase some old out of print books amongst others. The rest of the week it is possible to visit the Sadequain gallery, home to the famous Sadequain mural called "Arz-o-Samawat." The Hall is located between Abdullah Haroon Road and Fatima Jinnah Road in the middle of two lawns which extended till the roads. It is located in Civil Lines locality of the town. In the vicinity are the Marriott Hotel, US Consul General's house, the Japanese Consulate and the Sind Club. Out of twelve designs submitted, the one by Lt. Col St. Clair Wilson was chosen and construction started in 1863. It was opened by Samuel Mansfield, the Commissioner of Sind in 1865. The total cost of this hall was about Rs.

The Mohatta Palace is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It was built by Shivratan Chandraratan Mohatta, an ambitious self-made businessman from... Marwar as his summer home in 1927. The architect of the palace was Agha Ahmed Hussain. However, Mohatta could enjoy this building for only about two decades before independence of Pakistan and he left Karachi for India. He built the Palace in the tradition of stone palaces in Rajasthan, using pink Jodhpur stone in combination with the local yellow stone from Gizri. The amalgam gave the palace a distinctive presence in an elegant neighbourhood, characterised by Mughal architecture which was located not far from the sea. The palace has an area of 18,500 sq ft and its facade is trimmed with windows, stone brackets, spandrels, domes, balustrades with floral motifs and exquisite railings. There are nine domes, with a centre dome in the middle; while the windows in the front portion opening out into the garden are of blue colour and those in the rear area are arched windows with stained glass.

Georgette Lizette "Googie" Withers CBE, AO was an English theatre, film and television actress. She was a longtime resident of Australia with her... husband, the actor John McCallum, with whom she often appeared. She was a well-known actress during the war and post-war years. An Anglo-Indian, Withers was born in Karachi, then part of British India, to Edgar Withers, a captain in the Royal Navy, and a Dutch-German mother named Zitette. She acquired the name "Googie" at a young age from her ayah . As a child, she learned Urdu. Her father left the Royal Navy to manage a foundry in Birmingham, England, and Googie was sent to a boarding school near Dover, Kent. She began acting at the age of twelve. A student at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, she was a dancer in a West End production when she was offered work as a film extra in Michael Powell's The Girl in the Crowd . She arrived on the set to find one of the major players in the production had been dismissed and was immediately asked to step into the role.

Ramesh Sippy is an Indian film director, probably best-known for directing the popular and critically acclaimed film Sholay . His father was... producer G. P. Ramesh Sippy has been married twice; his current wife is actress Kiran Juneja. Ramesh visited the sets of the film Sazaa, his father's first film, when he was 6 years old. His first film job came when he was 9 years old, when he played Achala Sachdev's son in Shahenshah. He worked in both the production and direction departments in films like Johar-Mehmood in Goa and Mere Sanam, which his father was producing. He worked for 7 years as an assistant before becoming the director of Andaz, in 1971. Although this was only a moderate success, his second film Seeta Aur Geeta was highly successful. In 1975 he directed Sholay which went on to become the biggest blockbuster in Bollywood film history and won lots of acclaim.

The daughter of an Indian Army doctor father and a teacher mother, she spent the first five years of her life in India.  She trained for the stage at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her marriage to television actor Peter Penry-Jones lasted from 22 September 1967 until his death in 2009. They had two sons, actors Laurence and Rupert. In the BBC Who do you think you are? programme featuring son Rupert, broadcast in August 2010, it was revealed that Thorne's father William had served with the Indian Medical Corps at the Battle of Monte Cassino and that his preceding ancestors had a long-standing connection with the Indian Army. Her first professional engagement was with the Caryl Jenner Children's Theatre. After repertory seasons at York and Sheffield, she appeared in Night Must Fall at Theatre Royal, Windsor and the Haymarket Theatre.

Atiqa Odho is a Pakistani television and film actress, television host, politician and brand. She debuted in Anwar Maqsood's TV series Sitara aur... Mehrunissa and later starred in a string of successful films, including Jo Darr Gya Woh Marr Gya, Mummy and Mujhe Chand Chahiye. Odho was born in Karachi, Pakistan on February 12, 1968. She originally belongs to Village Tajodero, District Jacobabad. Her native village is in the name of her grandfather Late Taj Muhammad Khan Odho. She is married, and has three children. She started her professional life as a make-up artist and hairstylist in 1989. While working as a make-up artist for various advertising agencies in Karachi, she was discovered by television personality, Anwar Maqsood. She starred in his play, "Sitara Aur Mehrunissa" in 1993; the role turned her into a household name in Pakistan. In 1995, she made her film debut in Jo Darr Gya Woh Marr Gya. Odho has since worked in many popular television and film projects and has been actively involved in both media and the cosmetic industry in Pakistan. She resides in the UAE and Pakistan.

Humayun Saeed is a Pakistani actor, model and producer. Saeed, who belongs to Memon family, has four younger brothers, Babar, Amir, Adnan and... Salman. He and his wife Samina reside in Karachi. Saeed obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Degree, before establishing himself as a garment factory production manager in Karachi, where he stayed from 1991- 1995. Saeed first appeared on television at the end of 1995. He accepted roles in various drama serials, appearing alongside other actors such as Aaminah Haq and Faryal Gohar. Taking up modeling as a side-by-side profession, Saeed soon received coverage for "his looks, his etiquette and above all, for his impressive voice." His first television play was 'Ye Jahan.' In 1996, he was declared Best Actor, at the PTV Performance Awards, for his performance in the play "Ab tum ja sakte ho." The same year he earned another Best Actor award for his performance in the telefilm 'Zeher.' His First Television Serial was 'Karooron Ka Aadmi'. Humayun shot to fame with his tremendous acting talents as he continues to impress the Pakistani Audiences and across the border as well.

Indian girls with her specific hair style, still known as "Sadhana cut", she became famous as Mystery Girl with her three suspense thriller films namely Woh Kaun Thi? , Mera Saaya and Anita , all directed by Raj Khosla. Shivdasani was nominated for prestigious Filmfare Award for Best Actress for film Woh Kaun Thi? and Waqt in 1965 and 1966. She took retirement from films in mid 1970s before which she also directed and co-produced few films. Born in a Sindhi family in Karachi, Pakistan , Shivdasani was named after her father's favorite actress-dancer Sadhana Bose. Her father was the brother of actor Hari Shivdasani. Sadhana is a cousin of the actress Babita, who is the daughter of actor Hari Shivdasani and mother of actresses Karisma & Kareena Kapoor. The family fled from Karachi during the post-partition riots and settled in Bombay.
