Dynamo Stadium in Kharkiv, Ukraine was most recently the home of FC Kharkiv, an association football club. The stadium was built in 1931 and was used... by teams from Kharkiv in the Soviet Championship, including FC Dynamo Kharkiv and FC Lokomotyv Kharkiv. The stadium was damaged during World War II, and later reconstructed. Lokomotiv Kharkiv, the predecessor to FC Metalist Kharkiv in the Soviet Top League, used the stadium until they moved to Metalist Stadium. The stadium was repaired again in 1971, and was practically idle until 1997. Until 2008, the stadium was used by FC Helios Kharkiv, who were leasing it from the municipal administration. At the beginning of 2008, the facility was sold to FC Kharkiv under the condition that the club would reconstruct it. It was closed down for renovations in late 2008, forcing FC Helios to move out of Kharkiv. FC Kharkiv returned to the stadium in April 2009, upon the conclusion of the main phase of renovations. The stadium has 2,503 seats. Construction is underway on an additional 6,500 seats.

KhTZ stadium, which is located between "Maselskogo" and "Radyanskoyi Armiyi" Kharkiv Metro stations, serves as a home soil to rugby clubs RC... Olуmp and RC TEX-A-C and is sometimes used for athletics tournaments of domestic importance. The stadium was built in Soviet times as a primary fitness centre for workers of the Kharkiv Tractor Plant.

Sergei Bortkiewicz was a Ukrainian-born Russian Romantic composer and pianist. Sergei Eduardovich Bortkiewicz was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine on 28... February 1877 in Polish noble family and spent most of his childhood on the family estate of Artëmovka, near Kharkiv. Bortkiewicz received his musical training from Anatoly Lyadov and Karl von Arek at the Imperial Conservatory of Music in Saint Petersburg. In 1900 he left Saint Petersburg and travelled to Leipzig, where he became a student of Alfred Reisenauer and Salomon Jadassohn, both pupils of Franz Liszt. In July 1902, Bortkiewicz completed his studies at the Leipzig Conservatory and was awarded the Schumann Prize on graduation. On his return to Russia in 1904, he married Elisabeth Geraklitowa, a friend of his sister and then returned to Germany where he settled in Berlin. It was there that he started to compose seriously.

Ivan Iovych Kuchuhura-Kucherenko and one of the most influential kobzars of the early 20th century. For his artistry he was awarded the title... "People's artist of Ukraine" in 1919 and later "People's Artist of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic" in 1926. Ivan Kucherenko was born on July 7, 1874 in the village of Murafa, of the Bohodukhiv Raion, in the Kharkov Governorate of the Russian Empire. At the age of 3, he became fully blind in his left eye and had some damage in his right eye. At the age of 8, he lost his father and became an orphan. The young Kucherenko had exceptional musical talent which directed him to the lifestyle of a kobzar. He was apprenticed to the kobzar Pavlo Hashchenko and began to perform as a kobzar at the turn of the 20th century. In 1902, Kucherenko participated in the 12th Archeological Conference held in Kharkiv where he was the youngest participant - at age 24.

Kateryna Volodymyrivna Bondarenko is a professional female tennis player from Ukraine and a doubles champion at Australian Open 2008. The younger... sister of professional tennis players Valeria and Alona Bondarenko, she was born in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union. She was introduced to tennis by her parents at age 4. She plays right-handed and turned pro in 2000. As of 10 January 2011 she is ranked World No. 89 in singles and World No. 104 in doubles by the Women's Tennis Association. Her career-high rankings in singles and doubles are World No. 29 and World No. 9, respectively. She pulled off the biggest singles win of her career so far at the 2009 Rogers Cup held in Toronto, Canada, by beating Venus Williams, the third seed at that event, in three sets. She has also defeated Ana Ivanović twice in professional matches, as well as in the 2004 Wimbledon Championships girls final; and Elena Dementieva at the 2009 Toray Pan Pacific Open. Bondarenko is coached by her father, Volodymyr and mother, Natalia.

Artur Vyacheslavovich Mikheev , better known under his stage name Arthur Berkut , is a Russian singer. Through his career he participated in numerous... bands, most notable are Autograph, Mavrik, and Aria. Arthur was born in Kharkiv, Ukraine to a family of Moscow circus troupers, during their Ukrainian tour. He grew up in Moscow and graduated Moscow Gnessin Musical College as vocalist. In the early 1980s he participated in the cover band Magic Twilight, led by Vitaly Dubinin and Vladimir Holstinin, who later formed Aria. After a few years he was invited to join Autograph, already a popular rock band in Soviet Union, to replace its former vocalist. Since 1984 Arthur has performed under his stage name, "Berkut", which is Russian for golden eagle. Together with Autograph, Berkut toured over USA in 1989. But in 1990, during the tour, Autograph was disbanded. Berkut remained in USA and tried himself in different projects, formed a short-lived art rock band ZOOOM. In 1997 Arthur returned to Russia.

Vitaliy Viktorovych Vyshnevsky is a Ukrainian-Russian professional ice hockey defenceman currently playing for SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental... Hockey League . After playing in the Russian Super League for Torpedo Yaroslavl, Vishnevsky was drafted 5th overall by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He came to North America to start the 1999–2000 season playing for the Ducks affiliate the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks of the American Hockey League. He also made his NHL debut playing in 31 games for the Ducks. Vishnesvky established himself as a mainstay on the Duck defense, known for his punishing checks. In the 2002–03 season he helped to Ducks reach the Stanley Cup finals. Playing in all their playoff games in their eventual defeat to the New Jersey Devils. Vitaly scored a career high 16 points in the 2003–04 NHL season. Vishnevsky returned to Russia to play for Khimik Voskresensk during the 2004–05 NHL lockout. In the 2005–06 NHL season, Vishnevsky continued to play for the Ducks where they made their way to the conference finals before losing to the Edmonton Oilers.

Klavdiya Ivanovna Shulzhenko was a popular female singer of the Soviet Union. Shulzhenko started singing with jazz and pop bands in the late 1920s.... She rose to fame in the late 1930s with her version of Sebastian Yradier's La Paloma. In 1939, she was awarded at the first all-Soviet competition of pop singers. During World War II, Shulzhenko performed about a thousand concerts for Soviet soldiers in besieged Leningrad and elsewhere. The lyrics of one of her prewar songs, The Blue Headscarf, were adapted so as to suit wartime realities. Another iconic song of the Eastern Front , Let's Smoke, was later used by Vladimir Menshov in his Oscar-winning movie Moscow Does Not Believe In Tears. On April 10, 1976 Shulzhenko performed to enraptured audience in the Column Hall of the House of Unions in what would become her most famous concert.

Alexander Ilyich Siloti was a Russian pianist, conductor and composer. Alexander Siloti was born on his father's estate near Kharkiv, Ukraine . He... studied piano at the Moscow Conservatory with Nikolai Zverev from 1871, then from 1875 under Nikolai Rubinstein, brother of the more famous Anton Rubinstein; from that year he also studied counterpoint under Sergei Taneyev, harmony under Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and theory under Nikolai Hubert. He graduated with the Gold Medal in Piano in 1881. Siloti went to Weimar, Germany to further his studies with Franz Liszt, co-founding the Liszt-Verein in Leipzig, and making his professional debut on 19 November 1883. Returning to Russia in 1887, Siloti taught at the Moscow Conservatory, where his students included Alexander Goldenweiser, Leonid Maximov, and his first cousin Sergei Rachmaninoff.
