Belarus , officially the Republic of Belarus, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordered clockwise by Russia to the northeast, Ukraine to... the south, Poland to the west, and Lithuania and Latvia to the northwest. The borders of Belarus took their modern shape in 1939 when some lands of the Second Polish Republic were incorporated into it after the Soviet invasion of Poland.

Moldova /mɒlˈdoʊvə/, officially the Republic of Moldova is a landlocked state in Eastern Europe located between Romania to the... west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south. It declared itself an independent state with the same boundaries as the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic in 1991 as part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union. On 29 July 1994, the new constitution of Moldova was adopted. A strip of Moldova's internationally recognized territory on the east bank of the river Dniester has been under the de facto control of the breakaway government of Transnistria since 1990. The nation is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. Moldova is a member state of the United Nations, Council of Europe, WTO, OSCE, GUAM, CIS, BSEC and other international organizations. Moldova currently aspires to join the European Union, and has implemented the first three-year Action Plan within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy .

The Battle of Zboriv, also known as the Battle of Zborów, was fought in the vicinity of Zboriv , as part of the Khmelnytsky Uprising, between... the combined Cossack-Crimean force and the Crown army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Crown forces of about 25,000 led by King John II Casimir from Lublin, on the march to relieve the forces besieged in Zbarazh, met with a combined force of Cossacks and Crimean Tatars, led by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and Khan İslâm III Giray of Crimea respectively, which numbered about 80,000. Polish forces were surprised during their crossing of the river Strypa. The battle lasted two days and was very bloody. As its tide turned against the Poles, they asked for talks, and the khan forced Khmelnytsky to enter into them, possibly after being bribed by the Poles. The result was an agreement known as the Treaty of Zboriv. The agreement was at some degree advantageous to the Cossacks, while being less than what Khmelnytsky anticipated to obtain from his campaign. The fighting itself technically was inconclusive as both forces remained undefeated on the battlefield when the ceasefire took effect.

The Battle of Batoh was a battle in 1652 in which Polish forces under Marcin Kalinowski were defeated by Cossacks commanded by Hetman Bohdan... Khmelnytsky. About 8,000 Polish soldiers were taken prisoners and massacred after the battle, including Samuel Jerzy Kalinowski, Zygmunt Przyjemski, Jan Odrzywolski and Marek Sobieski. The defeat had severe and long-lasting consequences for the history of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and for Ukraine. Cossack Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky marched toward Moldavia in 1652 to form an alliance with Hospodar Basil Lupu against the Poles. He also wanted to marry his son Tymish to Rozalin, the daughter of the ruler. Hetman Marcin Kalinowski, leader of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth’s Crown army, decided to foil the plan. In May 1652, he concentrated armies to block the road against the march of the Cossacks and accompanying Crimean Tatars. The assembly point was designated as the entrenched camp at Batoh, founded previously near the river Boh. This was a significant mistake of the Polish leadership, losing the opportunity to prevent the unification of the enemy forces.

Battle of Zhovti Vody , was the first significant battle of the Khmelnytsky Uprising. The name of the battle derived from a nearby river Zhovta. The... events took place about 20 miles north of Zhovti Vody, today on the border of Kirovohrad Oblast and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in south-central Ukraine when advance forces of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth army led by Stefan Potocki met a numerically superior force of Cossacks and Crimean Tatars under the command of Bohdan Khmelnytsky and Tuhaj Bej. After the Registered Cossacks who were originally allied with the Commonwealth arrived and unexpectedly sided with Khmelnytsky, the Commonwealth forces were vanquished while attempting to retreat following a 18-day battle, only days before reinforcements were to arrive. In April 1646 after meeting with the Cossack officers Władysław IV Vasa secretly chartered them for rallying up the cossack army for the upcoming campaign against Crimean Khanate. The King has given his letter to the Military Yesaul Ivan Barabash who headed the Cossack Diplomatic Mission to the Royal court.

Battle of Korsun , was the second significant battle of the Khmelnytsky Uprising. Near the site of the present-day city of Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi in... central Ukraine, a numerically superior force of Cossacks and Crimean Tatars under the command of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky and Tuhaj-Bej attacked and defeated Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth forces under the command of Hetmans Mikołaj Potocki and Marcin Kalinowski. As in the previous battle at Zhovti Vody, the outmanned Commonwealth forces took a defensive position, retreated, and were thoroughly routed by the opposing force. On May 16, 1648, Bohdan Khmelnytsky's forces overwhelmed and defeated Commonwealth forces under the command of Stefan Potocki at the Battle of Zhovti Vody. Stefan's father, Grand Crown Hetman Mikołaj Potocki, was unable to send reinforcements in time to relieve him; however, with the number of defections from the force that was sent to fight Khmelnytsky , it is doubtful that the reinforcements could have helped defeat the combined Cossack and Tatar army of 15,000.
