Lille

Stade Grimonprez-Jooris was a multi-purpose stadium in Lille, France built in 1974. It was used mainly for football matches as it was home to the... Lille OSC football club from 1975 until 2004, when the stadium was closed. The club originally planned to have Grimonprez-Jooris redeveloped into a 33,000-seat stadium, but this proposal was rejected, and the new Stade Borne de l'Espoir is currently being constructed instead. The new stadium is expected to be finished by 2012, and in the meantime Lille OSC play their home games at Stadium Nord Lille Métropole. The stadium was officially opened on 28 October 1975, when Lille played a friendly against Dutch side Feyenoord and the last match at the stadium was played on 15 May 2004, Lille's last home game in the 2003–04 Ligue 1 season against SC Bastia. Lille won the game 2–0 with Matt Moussilou scoring the last goal in the history of Grimonprez-Jooris.

Renée Adorée was a French actress who had appeared in Hollywood silent movies during the 1920s. Born Jeanne de la Fonte in Lille, she was... the daughter of circus artists and by age five was performing with her parents. In her teens, she began acting in minor stage productions and toured Europe with her troupe. She was performing in Russia when World War I broke out and fled to London. From London she went to New York City, where she continued to work in the theatre until the opportunity arose to work in the motion picture business. In 1920, given the exotic name Renée Adorée by the studio, she appeared in her first motion picture. While in New York City on New Year's Eve 1921 she met Tom Moore . Fifteen years her senior, Tom Moore and his brothers were very successful Hollywood actors. Six weeks after their meeting, on February 12, 1921, Adorée married Moore at his home in Beverly Hills, California. The marriage did not last, and in 1925, Adorée married again, this time to Sherman Gill.

Isabelle Aubret is a French singer. Born as Thérèse Coquerelle in Lille, France, Aubret won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1962... representing France and singing "Un premier amour" with music composed by Claude-Henri Vic and lyrics by Roland Stephane Valade. In 1968, she returned to the contest, again representing France, finishing third, and singing "La source" with music by Daniel Faure and lyrics by Henri Dijan, and Guy Bonnet. Aubret was a participant in the French national heats for Eurovision in other years. Her first attempt was in 1961 with the song "Le gars de n'importe où". She was awarded second place. Another runner-up spot came Aubret's way in 1970 when she teamed up with Daniel Bératta for the song "Olivier, Olivia". She was not as successful with her 1976 effort, "Je te connais déjà" which finished sixth out of seven songs in the second semi-final. Her final challenge for Eurovision was in 1983 with the patriotic "France, France" which took her to third place.

Philippe Noiret was a French film actor. Noiret's father was in the clothes trade. Philippe was an indifferent scholar and attended several... prestigious Paris schools, including the Lycée Janson de Sailly. He failed several times to pass his baccalauréat exams, so he decided to study theater. He trained at the Centre Dramatique de l'Ouest and toured with the Théâtre National Populaire for seven years, where he met Monique Chaumette, whom he married in 1962. During that time he developed a career as a nightclub comedian in a duo act with Jean-Pierre Darras, in which he played Louis XIV in an extravagant wig opposite Darras as the dramatist Jean Racine. In these roles they satirized the politics of Charles de Gaulle, Michel Debré and André Malraux. Noiret's screen debut was an uncredited role in Gigi. In 1955 he appeared in La Pointe Courte directed by Agnès Varda. She said later - "I discovered in him a breadth of talent rare in a young actor." Sporting a pudding-basin haircut, Noiret played a lovelorn youth in the southern fishing port of Sète.

She was born in Lille, France, and died in Port Hueneme, California as Yola d'Arvil Montiague. She was a professional dancer and after appearing in a French film, went to Hollywood. During World War I, her family went to Paris, but father died in 1923, so moved to Los Angeles, United States.
