Tattershall Castle is a castle in Tattershall, Lincolnshire, England, north east of Sleaford, and in the care of the National Trust. Tattershall... Castle has its origins in either a stone castle or a fortified manor house, built by Robert de Tateshale in 1231. This was largely rebuilt in brick, and greatly expanded, by Ralph, 3rd Lord Cromwell, Treasurer of England, between 1430, and 1450. Brick castles are less common in England than stone or earth and timber constructions; when brick was chosen as a building material it was often for its aesthetic appeal or because it was fashionable. The trend for using bricks was introduced by Flemish weavers. There was plenty of stone available nearby, but Cromwell chose to use brick. About 700,000 bricks were used to build the castle, which has been described as "the finest piece of medieval brick-work in England". Of Lord Cromwell's castle, the 130 foot high Great Tower and moat still remain. It is thought that the castle's three state rooms were once splendidly fitted out and the chambers were heated by immense gothic fireplaces with decorated chimney pieces and tapestries.

Lincoln Castle is a major castle constructed in Lincoln, England during the late 11th century by William the Conqueror on the site of a pre-existing... Roman fortress. The castle is unusual in that it has two mottes. It is only one of two such castles in the country, the other being at Lewes in Sussex. Lincoln Castle remained in use as a prison and law court into modern times, and is one of the better preserved castles in England; the Crown Courts continue to this day. It is open to the public as a museum. When William the Conqueror defeated Harold Godwinson and the English at The Battle of Hastings on 14 October 1066, he continued to face resistance to his rule in the north of England. For a number of years, William's position was very insecure. In order to project his influence northwards to control the people of the Danelaw , he constructed a number of major castles in the north and midlands of England. It was at this time that the new king built major castles at Warwick, Nottingham and York. After gaining control of York, the Conqueror turned southwards and arrived at the Roman and Viking city of Lincoln.

Doddington Hall is an Elizabethan mansion complete with walled courtyards and a gabled gatehouse. It is located in the village of Doddington near the... city of Lincoln in Lincolnshire, England. Doddington Hall was built between 1593 and 1600 by Robert Smythson for Thomas Tailor, who was the registrar to the Bishop of Lincoln. It is a grade I listed building. In the 12th century the manor of Doddington was owned by the Pigot family who sold it to Sir Thomas Burgh in 1450, and eventually to John Savile of Howley, Leeds. In 1593, he sold the manor house to Thomas Tailor who commissioned the present house. It was inherited by his son, and then his granddaughter Elizabeth Anton who married Sir Edward Hussey of Honington. Their son Sir Thomas Hussey inherited in 1658. Sir Thomas' three daughters were his co-heiresses when he died in 1706. Mrs Sarah Apreece was the surviving heiress and on her death in 1749, her daughter Rhoda, wife of Captain Francis Blake Deleval of Seaton Deleval, Northumbria, inherited. It then passed to her second son, Sir John Hussey-Deleval and he had improvements made to the Hall in 1761 by Thomas and William Lumby of Lincoln.

Lincoln Medieval Bishop's Palace is an historic visitor's attraction in the city of Lincoln, Lincolnshire. When it was first built, in the late 12th... century, it was one of the grandest residential structures in England and the administrative center of the vast Diocese of Lincoln, which stretched from the Humber to the Thames. The palace was sacked during the Civil War and subsequently abandoned; today it is a ruin, open to the sky on a sloping site between the cathedral and Lincoln Castle and set into a modern garden plan by Mark Anthony Walker, completed in 2001. The palace's most notable surviving feature is the West Hall, built over an undercroft by the Burgundian-born Bishop St Hugh of Lincoln and completed in the 1230s. The range of buildings that included an expanded chapel and the tower gatehouse were built by Bishop William Alnwick, in the 1430s. The historic site is maintained by English Heritage.

James "Jim" Broadbent is an English theatre, film, and television actor. He is known for his roles in Iris, Moulin Rouge!, Topsy-Turvy, Hot Fuzz,... and Bridget Jones' Diary. He also appears in the Harry Potter films as Horace Slughorn. Broadbent was born in Holton cum Beckering, the son of Doreen "Dee" Broadbent , a sculptor, and Roy Laverick Broadbent, an artist, sculptor, interior designer, and furniture maker who turned a former church into a theatre named after him. Broadbent's parents were both amateur actors who co-founded the Holton Players acting troupe at Holton cum Beckering; the two were described by the BBC as conscientious objectors who "worked the land" rather than participate in World War II. He had a twin sister who died at birth. Broadbent was educated at Leighton Park School, a Quaker school in Reading, and briefly attended art college before transferring to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art from which he graduated in 1972.

He played the violin in the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Martin String Quartet and London Symphony Orchestra, playing with the latter two for 13 years. He later formed the Jacobean Ensemble with Thurston Dart before going to Hancock, Maine in the United States to study conducting with Pierre Monteux at his school there. In 1959, he founded the Academy of St Martin in the Fields chamber orchestra and recorded profusely with them. Marriner was the first music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, from 1969 to 1978. From 1979 to 1986, he was music director of the Minnesota Orchestra. He was principal conductor of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra from 1986 to 1989. Marriner has recorded for various labels, including Argo, L'Oiseau Lyre, Philips and EMI Classics. His recorded repertoire ranges from the baroque era to 20th century British music, as well as opera.

Isobel Dinah Lang is a weather presenter for Sky News. Lang grew up in Sussex and Hertfordshire. She graduated with a BSc degree in mathematics in... 1991 from the University of Exeter, before joining the Met Office in 1991 where she prepared forecasts for the press, and presented the weather on local radio. She joined the BBC on 31 May 1995, becoming one of the better known faces of BBC Weather, in part due to her distinctive red hair. She appeared across all of the BBC's TV and Radio news outlets, including regular primetime forecasts on BBC One and appearances on BBC World and BBC News 24. Isobel left the BBC Weather Centre in August 2006 and joined Sky News in September 2006 where she also presented forecasts for Channel 5 until February 2012. She married Christopher Clarke in September 1997 in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. She had a son in September 2002 and a daughter in January 2004. They live in south west London.

Toby Jepson is a singer, songwriter and was lead vocalist and guitarist in the British rock band, Little Angels between the years of 1984 and 1994.... Between 2008 and 2010 he was the lead singer with Scottish rock band Gun. Jepson formed Mr Thrud with his school friend Mark Plunkett in Scarborough, and the band went on to become very popular in their local area. Eventually breaking out and achieving national success, Mr Thrud became Little Angels and went on to release three albums and tour the UK throughout the early 1990s. The band had twelve Top 40 hits, including "Too Much, Too Young" and "Womankind" in 1993, and a number one album Jam in 1993. They toured with Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams and Van Halen, and performed their own headlining tours taking in venues such as Hammersmith Apollo and The Royal Albert Hall. They were arguably one of the most successful and popular British bands of their time. When the band split in 1994, Jepson continued to write and produce music. His solo debut album was released in 1995 under the moniker "Toby & The Whole Truth".

Stephen Russell Race OBE was a British composer, pianist and radio and television presenter. Born in Lincoln, the son of a lawyer, Race learned the... piano from the age of five. He was educated at Lincoln School, where he formed his first jazz band, which included a young Neville Marriner, later a major figure in the world of classical music. At sixteen, he attended the Royal Academy of Music, studying composition under Harry Farjeon and William Alwyn. He joined the Royal Air Force in 1941, and formed a jazz/dance band quintet. After World War II he began a long and productive career with the BBC, where his ready wit, musicianship and broad musical knowledge made him much sought after as a musical accompanist for panel games and magazine shows, such as Whirligig and Many a Slip. In 1949 his jazz group recorded the first British bebop records. From the 1950s to the 1980s he presented countless music programmes on radio and television. Additionally, in 1955, he was appointed the first Light Music Advisor to the early independent television company Associated-Rediffusion.

Kelly Adams is an English actress. A pupil of North Kesteven School in North Hykeham, Adams trained at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in Wood... Green, London. Initially playing Tara Palmer-Tomkinson in a docu-soap about Prince William, she later appeared in Doctors before playing Mickie Hendrie in Holby City from 2004 to 2006. Her ambitious character left for Newcastle Medical school to study to be a doctor. Adams has since appeared as the servant Eve in the Robin Hood episode "A Thing or Two About Loyalty". In 2009 Adams joined the cast of long-running BBC1 drama series Hustle for its fifth season, playing the role of Emma Kennedy, a new member of Mickey Bricks' crew of con artists. She has continued in the role of Emma for three further seasons of the drama, the most recent of which aired from 3 February 2012. In an episode of Series 6 Adams plays the role of Kylie Minogue as a parody of Adams' slight resemblance to the Australian singer. In 2010 Adams appeared in the movie My Last Five Girlfriends as Wendy.

Raymond "Boz" Burrell was an English musician. Originally a vocalist, Burrell is best known for his bass playing and work with the rock bands King... Crimson and Bad Company. In the mid 1960s Burrell featured as a singer in "The Boz People", which had originally been called "The Tea Time Four". During this period he also replaced Roger Daltrey in The Who, for a short period. In the late 1960s Burrell released solo singles as a vocalist credited as Boz. He was joined by Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Jon Lord, who would later form Deep Purple. During this period Burrell returned to Norwich, as the front man for "Feel for Soul", who played soul cover songs. In the early 1970s, he joined King Crimson as a vocalist and bass guitar player and was taught to how to play the instrument by guitarist Robert Fripp. He recorded Islands with the band and featured on a post-breakup compilation live album Earthbound. Burrell's vocals also appeared on Centipede's Septober Energy .

Tim Hart was an English folk singer and multi-instrumentalist, best known as a founding member of electric folk band, Steeleye Span. Tim Hart was... born in Lincoln. His father, Rev. Canon Dennis Hart, was the vicar of St Saviour's in St Albans. Hart began his life as a musician performing with the Rattfinks, St Albans School's second band, the first being The Zombies. In 1966, he began performing with the Blackpool born Maddy Prior, touring English folk clubs. In 1968 and 1969 the duo recorded two albums: Folk Songs of Olde England, . From 1970 to 1982, Hart and Prior were the backbone of Steeleye Span. Hart's contribution to the band demonstrated his musical abilities on a wide range of instruments, some electronic, including: acoustic guitars, dulcimer, organ, 5 string banjo, mandolin, bells, tabor and spoons as well as vocals. In 1971, as well as recording two albums as part of Steeleye Span, they recorded Summer Solstice - a much more professional recording than their first two albums, including a string arrangement by Robert Kirby, better known for his work with Nick Drake. Almost every song that Hart sang was traditional.

Sheila Gish was a British stage and television actress. She was born Sheila Anne Gash in Lincoln, studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, and... made her stage debut with a repertory company. Her first starring role in the West End was as Bella in Robert and Elizabeth. She continued to be best known for her stage work, but she also appeared in many television dramas, from The First Churchills to the successful adaptation of Love in a Cold Climate in which she played the eccentric and outrageous Lady Montdore. She had two daughters: the actresses Kay Curram and Lou Gish by her first husband, the actor Roland Curram. While filming That Uncertain Feeling for BBC2 in 1985, she met actor Denis Lawson, who was to become her second husband. She rarely appeared on film, her most notable performances being as Anna in the Merchant-Ivory film Quartet and as Mrs Norris in Jane Austen's Mansfield Park . She is also known for her appearance in the 1986 film Highlander as Rachel Ellenstein.

Neil McCarthy was a British actor known for his dramatic physical appearance. He was also a gifted linguist and pianist. His father was a dentist... and he was educated at Stamford School and Trinity College Dublin and he trained as a teacher. He then appeared on stage at Oxford repertory theatre, at the Edinburgh Festival and in the West End of London. McCarthy's film credits include memorable roles as a Welsh soldier in Zulu , as Sergeant Jock McPherson in Where Eagles Dare , as the villain Calibos in Clash of the Titans , and as a robber in Time Bandits . His television credits include: Man of the World, Danger Man, The Avengers, The Saint, Z-Cars, Dixon of Dock Green, Randall and Hopkirk , Catweazle, Softly, Softly: Taskforce, Department S, Who Pays the Ferryman?, Return of the Saint, Doctor Who , Enemy at the Door, Shogun, The Professionals, Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, The Gentle Touch and Emmerdale Farm, and the television adaptation of the Lord Peter Wimsey novel, The Nine Tailors. He died of motor neurone disease.
