Papa John's Cardinal Stadium is a football stadium located in Louisville, Kentucky, USA and serves as the home of the University of Louisville... football program. It opened in 1998, making it the third-to-last football stadium in NCAA Division I-A to open in the 20th century, with SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium being the second to last, and the University of Minnesota's new stadium being the most recent. The official seating capacity in the horseshoe-shaped facility was 42,000 through the 2008 season. An expansion project that started after the 2008 season temporarily reduced capacity to 40,000 for 2009 ; its completion for the 2010 season has brought the official capacity to 55,000 plus. With an average of 50,648 fans in attendance in 2010, the newly expanded stadium was filled at only 92% of capacity. Attendance decreased in 2011 with an average of 48,538 fans per game, only 88% of capacity.

The Brown Hotel is an historic 16-story hotel in downtown Louisville, Kentucky, U.S., located on the corner of Fourth and Broadway. It contains 293... rooms and over 24,000 ft² of meeting space. It also contains special amenities, such as a fitness center and three restaurants. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The hotel was designed by Preston J. Bradshaw and opened in 1923, only 10 months after construction began. The hotel cost $4 million, and was funded and owned by James Graham Brown, a local entrepreneur. The hotel quickly became a central part of the growing downtown Louisville economy. In 1926 the hotel chef Fred K. Schmidt introduced the Hot Brown sandwich, consisting of an open-faced turkey sandwich with bacon with a delicate Mornay sauce. The Hot Brown became rather popular among locals and visitors alike. The sandwich was featured on the 2002 PBS documentary Sandwiches That You Will Like. Many famous people visited the hotel in its early years. David Lloyd George former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was the first person to sign the guest register, and Queen Marie of Romania also visited.

The Zachary Taylor House, also known as Springfield, was the boyhood home of the twelfth President of the United States, Zachary Taylor. Located in... Louisville, Kentucky, Taylor lived there from 1790 to 1808, held his marriage there in 1810, and returned there periodically the rest of his life. Zachary Taylor's father, Colonel Richard Taylor, purchased a 400-acre farm on the Muddy Fork of Beargrass Creek in 1785, while Zachary was eight months old. They initially lived in a log cabin on the property, but within the first five years Richard Taylor built a house at the highest point on his property, dubbing it "Springfield". By 1800 Richard Taylor purchased an additional three hundred acres, making his property 700 acres in total. The property was adjacent to Locust Grove, the farm where George Rogers Clark lived from 1809 until his death in 1818. Before he began his military career in 1808, Zachary Taylor lived twenty years in the house. He would later return to the house to be married on June 18, 1810, and have five of his six children born in the house. In 1829 the house was sold upon Richard Taylor's death, due to debts he had acquired.

He is credited as the creator of Gonzo journalism, a style of reporting where reporters involve themselves in the action to such a degree that they become central figures of their stories. He is known also for his lifelong use of alcohol, LSD, mescaline, and cocaine ; his love of firearms; his inveterate hatred of Richard Nixon; and his iconoclastic contempt for authoritarianism. While suffering a bout of health problems, he committed suicide in 2005 at the age of 67. Thompson was born in Louisville, Kentucky, the first of three sons, to Jack Robert Thompson , a public insurance adjuster and World War I veteran, and Virginia Ray Davison , a librarian.

Best known as... the director of Dracula , the cult classic Freaks , and classic silent film collaborations with Lon Chaney, Browning directed many movies in a wide range of genres. He was born Charles Albert Browning, Jr., in Louisville, Kentucky, the second son of Charles Albert and Lydia Browning, and the nephew of baseball star Pete Browning. As a young boy, he put on amateur plays in his backyard. He was fascinated by the circus and carnival life, and at the age of 16 he ran away from his well-to-do family to become a performer. Changing his name to "Tod", he traveled extensively with sideshows, carnivals, and circuses. His jobs included working as a talker for the Wild Man of Borneo, performing a live burial act in which he was billed as "The Living Corpse", and performing as a clown with the Ringling Brothers Circus. He would draw on this experience as inspiration for some of his film work.

Zachary Taylor was the 12th President of the United States and an American military leader. Initially uninterested in politics, Taylor ran as a... Whig in the 1848 presidential election, defeating Lewis Cass. He was a planter and slaveholder based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Known as "Old Rough and Ready," Taylor had a 40-year military career in the United States Army, serving in the War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, and the Second Seminole War. He achieved fame leading American troops to victory in the Battle of Palo Alto and the Battle of Monterrey during the Mexican–American War. As president, Taylor angered many Southerners by taking a moderate stance on the issue of slavery. He urged settlers in New Mexico and California to bypass the territorial stage and draft constitutions for statehood, setting the stage for the Compromise of 1850. Taylor died 16 months into his term, the third shortest tenure of any President. He is thought to have died of gastroenteritis. Taylor was succeeded by his Vice President, Millard Fillmore. Taylor was the last President to hold slaves while in office.

Wilson Pickett was an American R&B/Soul singer and songwriter. A major figure in the development of American soul music, Pickett recorded over... 50 songs which made the US R&B charts, and frequently crossed over to the US Billboard Hot 100. Among his best known hits are "In the Midnight Hour" , "Land of 1,000 Dances", "Mustang Sally", and "Funky Broadway". The impact of Pickett's songwriting and recording led to his 1991 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Pickett was born March 18, 1941 in Prattville, Alabama, and grew up singing in Baptist church choirs. He was the fourth of 11 children and called his mother "the baddest woman in my book," telling historian Gerri Hirshey: "I get scared of her now. She used to hit me with anything, skillets, stove wood — cried for a week. Stayed in the woods, me and my little dog." Pickett eventually left to live with his father in Detroit in 1955.

She was only eleven when her father died in 1909. She saved all of his letters and often remembered and lived by what he told her the night before he died: "Happiness is never an accident. It is the prize we get when we choose wisely from life's great stores." After her father's death, she, her mother and younger brother Charles moved to her mother's hometown of Madison, Indiana.

Muhammad Ali is an American former professional boxer, philanthropist and social activist. Considered a cultural icon, Ali was both idolized and... vilified. Originally known as Cassius Clay, Ali changed his name after joining the Nation of Islam in 1964, subsequently converting to Sunni Islam in 1975, and more recently practicing Sufism. In 1967, three years after Ali had won the World Heavyweight Championship, he was publicly vilified for his refusal to be conscripted into the U.S. military, based on his religious beliefs and opposition to the Vietnam War. Ali stated, "I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong No Viet Cong ever called me nigger" – one of the more telling remarks of the era. Widespread protests against the Vietnam War had not yet begun, but with that one phrase, Ali articulated the reason to oppose the war for a generation of young Americans, and his words served as a touchstone for the racial and antiwar upheavals that would rock the 1960s. She was recently the star of a play called Greedy, directed by James Roday, which played for a few weekends in Los Angeles. She now co-stars in the USA Network original series, Psych, as Detective Juliet O'Hara. She has been in a relationship with Psych co-star, James Roday, since 2006.

Victor John Mature was an American stage, film and television actor. Mature was born in Louisville, Kentucky. His father, Marcello Gelindo Maturi,... later Marcellus George Mature, was an Italian-speaking immigrant from the town Pinzolo, in the Italian part of the former County of Tyrol ; he was a cutler. His mother, Clara P. , was Kentucky-born and of Swiss heritage. An older brother, Marcellus Paul Mature, died at 11 in 1918 from osteomyelitis. Victor Mature was educated at parochial schools, the Kentucky Military Institute and the Spencerian Business School. He briefly sold candy and operated a restaurant before moving to California. Discovered while on stage at the Pasadena Community Playhouse, his first leading role was as a fur-clad caveman in One Million B.C. , after which he joined 20th Century Fox to star opposite actresses such as Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth. In July 1942 Mature attempted to enlist in the U.S. Navy but was rejected for color blindness. He enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard after taking a different eye test the same day.
