Curb Records is a record label started by Mike Curb originally as Sidewalk Records in 1963. From 1969 to 1973 Curb merged with MGM Records where Curb served as President of MGM and Verve Records. Throughout the years the Curb Companies have had major successes with such artists as the Stone Poneys... , Eric Burdon and War, Sammy Davis Jr., the Osmond Family , Lou Rawls, Exile, the Righteous Brothers, Solomon Burke, Gloria Gaynor, the Hondells, the Arrows , Lyle Lovett, Roy Orbison, the Electric Flag , the Sylvers, and the Four Seasons. The Four Seasons comeback album, Who Loves You, including "December 1963 Oh What A Night" which was the first single to spend more than one year on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. Curb's roster has included many successful country music artists, such as Tim McGraw, LeAnn Rimes, Hank Williams, Jr.

Lost Highway Records is a record label owned by Universal Music Group. Formed by Luke Lewis in 2000, Lost Highway Records operates as a country music label, based out of Nashville, but the label also issues music by alternative rock and alternative country artists such as Morrissey and Ryan Adams.... The company's name was inspired by a Hank Williams song. Today the label operates in conjunction with The Island Def Jam Music Group and Universal Music Group Nashville. Notable artists include Ryan Adams, Hayes Carll, Elvis Costello, Eagles, Bernard Fanning, Donavon Frankenreiter, Mary Gauthier, Golden Smog, The Jayhawks, Shelby Lynne, Tift Merritt, Van Morrison, Morrissey, Willie Nelson, Fionn Regan, Lucinda Williams. Additionally Lost Highway distributed the soundtracks for O' Brother, Where Art Thou?, Deadwood, and Open Season by Paul Westerberg. They have also acted as distributor for albums from Johnny Cash and Lyle Lovett. Lost Highway reissues recordings from the various Universal Music Group labels. MCA Records was an American-based record company owned by MCA Inc., which later gave way to the larger MCA Music Entertainment Group , of which MCA Records was still part. MCA Records was absorbed by Geffen Records in 2003. MCA's country division, MCA Nashville Records, is a still active imprint of... Universal Music Group Nashville. MCA entered the recorded music business in 1962 with the purchase of the New York-based US Decca Records , including Coral Records and Brunswick Records. As American Decca owned Universal Pictures, MCA assumed full ownership of Universal and made it into the top film studio in town, producing hit after hit. In 1966, MCA formed Uni Records and in 1967 purchased Kapp Records which was placed under Uni Records management. The U.S. and U.K. Decca companies were forced to sever their ties because of World War II. MCA's U.S. based Decca Records had the rights to the Decca name in North and South America and parts of Asia including Japan. U.K. Decca owned the rights to the Decca name in the rest of the world. Jazz is a musical style that originated at the beginning of the 20th century in black communities in the Southern United States. It was born out of a... mix of African and European music traditions. Its black African pedigree is evident in its use of blue notes, improvisation, polyrhythms, syncopation and the swung note. From its early development until the present day jazz has also incorporated music from American popular music. Blues is the name given to both a musical form and a music genre that originated in African-American communities of primarily the "Deep South" of the... United States at the end of the 19th century from spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts and chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads. The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll is characterized by specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues chord progression is the most common. The blue notes that, for expressive purposes are sung or played flattened or gradually bent in relation to the pitch of the major scale, are also an important part of the sound. The blues genre is based on the blues form but possesses other characteristics such as specific lyrics, bass lines and instruments. Blues can be subdivided into several subgenres ranging from country to urban blues that were more or less popular during different periods of the 20th century. Best known are the Delta, Piedmont, Jump and Chicago blues styles.
