Capitol Diner is a historic diner at 431 Union Street in Lynn, Massachusetts. The J. G. Brill Company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania built the diner... unit in 1928. The restaurant was originally named the "Miss Lynn Diner" and after it was sold in 1938, it was renamed the "Capitol Diner" after the Capitol Theatre formerly across the street. The diner was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. It is believed to be the last operating Brill Diner in the United States.

James Neil Hamilton was an American actor known for his role as Commissioner Gordon on the Batman TV series of the 1960s. In the 1920s and 1930s, he... was a popular leading man. An only child, Hamilton was born in Lynn, Massachusetts. His show business career began when he secured a job as a shirt model in magazine ads, similar to fellow silent film performer Reed Howes who was known in advertisements as "The Arrow Collar Man". After this, he became interested in acting and joined several stock companies. This allowed him to secure his first film role in 1918, but he got his big break from D. W. Griffith in The White Rose . In 1924, he traveled to Germany with Griffith and made the pseudo-documentary Isn't Life Wonderful, co-starring Griffith's muse and then girlfriend Carol Dempster. Hamilton was signed by Paramount Pictures in the mid 1920s and soon became one of that studio's most popular leading men. In 1926, he played one of Ronald Colman's brothers in Paramount's original silent version of Beau Geste.

Known for a self-created persona described as "a daffy but endearing pseudo-English eccentric" with a "slightly askew accent that is two parts Grimesian British to one part British British" and a distinctive singing voice one critic called "a low, throaty quiver, a hum that takes wings", Grimes made her debut on the New York stage at the Neighborhood Playhouse in May 1955 in Jonah and the Whale. She made her Broadway stage debut as an understudy for Kim Stanley in the starring role in Bus Stop in June 1955.

I've got another sick headache." She also played Donald Hollinger's mother on That Girl, Howard Sprague's mother on The Andy Griffith Show, Dick Preston's mother on The New Dick Van Dyke Show, and Mrs. Van Hoskins, a wealthy woman whose jewels are stolen, in the screwball comedy, What's Up, Doc? . Her son George Englund was once married to Cloris Leachman. She died of Alzheimer's disease on September 28, 1982, at the age of 81, in Santa Monica, California. Her ashes were scattered into the Pacific Ocean.

Ethyle starred in many popular movies, such as A Small Town Girl, Stronger than Death, and The Fugitive. Ethyle Cooke was born in Lynn, Massachusetts. She grew up in her hometown, and was educated at the Girls' Latin School in nearby Boston. Ethyle began her stage career early when, at the age of 12, she performed at the Boston Museum . Her film career began in 1911, when she joined the Thanhouser film company, and she remained there until 1917. In 1915, while producing a film, she married Harry Benham, another actor working at the Thanhouser. They lived a long, happily married life and had two children, Dorothy and Leland Benham, who were also prominent Thanhouser personalities, as they appeared in several films. By mid-1914, she had over 200 screen appearances, and her nickname on the set came to be known as 'Cookie'. During this time at Thanhouser, she spent one year starring in lead roles with Florence LaBadie.

Frederick Anthony Picariello Jr. , known as Freddy Cannon, is an American rock and roll singer, whose biggest international hits included... "Tallahassee Lassie", "Way Down Yonder In New Orleans", and "Palisades Park". Freddy Picariello was born in Swampscott, Massachusetts, moving to the neighboring town of Lynn as a child. His father worked as a truck driver and also played trumpet and sang in local bands. Freddy grew up listening to the rhythm and blues music of Big Joe Turner, Buddy Johnson and others on the radio, and learned to play guitar. After attending Lynn Vocation High School, he made his recording debut in 1955, singing and playing rhythm guitar on a single, "Cha-Cha-Do" by the Spindrifts, which became a local hit. He also played lead guitar on a session for an R&B vocal group, The G-Clefs, whose record "Ka-Ding Dong" made No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1956. At a young age he joined the National Guard, took a job driving a truck, married, and became a father.

Harold Samuel Shapero is an American composer. Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Shapero and his family later moved to nearby Newton. He learned to play... the piano as a child, and for some years was a pianist in dance orchestras. With a friend, he founded the Hal Kenny Orchestra, a swing-era jazz band. He was more interested in classical music, though. In his teens he studied with some famous teachers, including Nicolas Slonimsky in 1936, and Ernst Krenek in 1937. At 18 he was ready to attend Harvard, where he studied composition with Walter Piston in 1938, and Paul Hindemith in 1940. Tanglewood, a now cherished musical institution, was founded in the 1940s, and Shapero was one of its first students. When Igor Stravinsky was Norton Professor at Harvard in 1940, Shapero showed Stravinsky his Nine-Minute Overture. Shapero hoped to get the Overture played at Tanglewood in the summer of that year, but Hindemith ordered that no student compositions would be played that season. Fortunately, Aaron Copland hastily put together an Orchestra just to play student compositions deemed worthy, including Shapero's Overture.

The elder Brennan was an engineer and inventor, and young Walter studied engineering at Rindge Technical High School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While in school, Brennan became interested in acting, and began to perform in vaudeville. While working as a bank clerk, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a private with the 101st Field Artillery Regiment in France during World War I. Following the war, he moved to Guatemala and raised pineapples, before settling in Los Angeles. During the 1920s, he became involved in the real estate market, where he made a fortune. Unfortunately, he lost most of his money when the market took a sudden downturn due to the Great Depression.

Stahl was born in Lynn, Massachusetts,... of Jewish heritage, the daughter of Dorothy J. , and Louis E. Stahl, a food company executive. In 1977, Stahl married author Aaron Latham.
