State Route 480 was a state highway in San Francisco, California, United States, consisting of the elevated double-decker Embarcadero Freeway , the partly elevated Doyle Drive approach to the Golden Gate Bridge and the proposed and unbuilt section in between. The unbuilt section from Doyle Drive to... Van Ness Ave. was to have been called the Golden Gate Freeway and the Embarcadero Freeway as originally planned would have extended from Van Ness Ave. along the north side of Bay Street and then along the Embarcadero to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The Embarcadero Freeway, which had only been constructed from Broadway along the Embarcadero to the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge, was demolished after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and Doyle Drive is now part of U.S. Route 101. SR 480 was Interstate 480, an auxiliary route of the Interstate Highway System, from 1955 to 1965. Potrero Hill is a hilly neighborhood in San Francisco, California. Potrero Hill is located on the eastern side of the city, east of the Mission District and south of SOMA and the newly designated district Showplace Square. It is roughly bordered by 16th Street to the north, Potrero Avenue and... U.S. Route 101 to the west and Cesar Chavez Street to the south; although the city of San Francisco considers the area below 20th Street between Potrero Ave and Route 101 to be part of Potrero Hill as well, as outlined in the Eastern Neighborhood Plan. The area east of Highway 280 is the Dogpatch, generally regarded as a subdivision of Potrero Hill. The Dogpatch is mostly flatland and has many docks and most are built atop landfill. The Dogpatch is a highly industrialized area with pockets of residences while Potrero Hill is mostly a residential area with some light industrial buildings. The Dogpatch is regarded as part of Potrero Hill although it has its own unique characteristic and identity.
