The Converse Memorial Building, also known as Converse Memorial Library, is a public library building designed by noted American architect H. H.... Richardson. From 1885 to 1996, when construction of a new library addition was completed, the building was also home to the Malden Public Library. The Converse Memorial Building is located at 36 Salem Street, Malden, Massachusetts. The building was a gift of Elisha S. and Mary D. Converse in memory of their murdered son, Frank Eugene Converse who was the victim of the first bank robbery/murder in North America. It was constructed 1883-1885 in an overall L-shape, with a facade of brown Longmeadow sandstone, a tower rising from the L's inner corner, and a heavily arched entry porch set within the L's short arm. The main library room is 50 x 36 feet and finished in elaborately carved white oak with a high, vaulted ceiling. Its furniture was designed by Richardson and manufactured by the Boston firm of Albert H. Davenport Company. The Converse Memorial Building is the last of Richardson's library designs and generally considered among his finest works. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.

Erle Stanley Gardner was an American lawyer and author of detective stories, best known for the Perry Mason series, he also published under the... pseudonyms A.A. Fair, Kyle Corning, Charles M. Green, Carleton Kendrake, Charles J. Kenny, Les Tillray and Robert Parr. Born in Malden, Massachusetts, Gardner graduated from Palo Alto High School in 1909, and received his only formal legal education at Valparaiso University School of Law in the state of Indiana. He attended law school for approximately 1 month, was suspended from school when his interest in boxing became a distraction, then settled in California where he became a self-taught attorney and passed the state bar exam in 1911. He opened his own law office in Merced, California, then worked for five years for a sales agency. In 1921, he returned to the practice of law, creating the firm of Sheridan, Orr, Drapeau and Gardner in Ventura, California. In 1912, he married Natalie Frances Talbert; they had a daughter, Grace. Gardner practiced at the Ventura firm until 1933, when The Case of the Velvet Claws was published.

Early visits to New York art galleries influenced his artist development, and his work was influenced by the abstract expressionism of Jackson Pollock and Franz Kline. Stella moved to New York in 1958, after his graduation. He is one of the most well-regarded postwar American painters still working today. Frank Stella has reinvented himself in consecutive bodies of work over the course of his five-decade career. Notably, he is heralded for creating abstract paintings that bear no pictorial illusions or psychological or metaphysical references in twentieth-century painting.

He is best known for his work with the rock group Extreme, as well as his short... stint as the lead singer for Van Halen on their 11th album Van Halen III and subsequent tour. In recent years he has released solo recordings. In 2007, he reunited with Extreme. The band's latest album Saudades de Rock was released on August 12, 2008. Born Gary Francis Caine Cherone, he grew up in Malden, Massachusetts and attended Malden High School, the third of five brothers and the younger of fraternal twin Greg Cherone. Raised in a middle-class Catholic family, Cherone was quiet, creative, and athletic. As a youth he dreamed of a career as a basketball player until he suffered a serious knee injury. In his teenage years, Cherone turned to singing in local bands and was heavily influenced by the reigning rock frontmen of the day, most notably Roger Daltrey of The Who, Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, and Queen's Freddie Mercury. In 1979 Cherone and drummer friend Paul Geary along with guitarist Matt McKay, formed a hard-rock band called Adrenalin and performed locally.

Edna May Oliver was an American stage and film actress. During the 1930s, she was one of the best-known character actresses in American films, often... playing tart-tongued spinsters. Born Edna May Nutter in Malden, Massachusetts, the daughter of Ida May and Charles Edward Nutter, Edna was a descendant of the sixth American president, John Quincy Adams. She quit school at age fourteen in order to pursue a career on stage and achieved her first success in 1917 on Broadway in Jerome Kern's musical comedy Oh, Boy!, playing the hero's comically dour Quaker Aunt Penelope. In 1925, Oliver appeared on Broadway in The Cradle Snatchers co-starring Mary Boland, Margaret Dale, Gene Raymond, Raymond Hackett and a young Humphrey Bogart. Oliver's most notable stage appearance was as Parthy, wife of Cap'n Andy Hawks, in the original 1927 stage production of the musical Show Boat. She repeated the role in the 1932 Broadway revival, but turned down the chance to play Parthy in the 1936 film version of the show so that she could play the Nurse in that year's film version of Romeo and Juliet, her only role in a Shakespeare film or play.

Knight is also the artist for two strips appearing in Mad, "Father O'Flannity's Hot Tub Confessions" and "Bully Baby". In the March 14, 2012 strip of The K Chronicles, he announced he was working on a graphic novel about his brief career as a professional Michael Jackson impersonator. The book will be entitled "I Was A Teenage Michael Jackson Impersonator". Knight also appears in The Marginal Prophets, a hip-hop band. Previously a resident of San Francisco, in 2007 he moved to Los Angeles, California. He was raised in the Boston area. In 2007, The K Chronicles won the Harvey Kurtzman Award for Best Syndicated Comic Strip.

Wally Brown was an actor, comedian, and long-time partner of Alan Carney. Wally was born in Malden, Massachusetts and served as a vaudevillian. In... 1942, he began his film career in Hollywood at RKO Radio Pictures with the film Petticoat Larceny. When RKO decided to emulate the comedy team Abbott and Costello he was paired with Alan Carney, creating "Brown & Carney." They premiered with the military comedies Adventures of a Rookie and its sequel Rookies in Burma. Out of their eight films together, one of their most notable films include Zombies on Broadway co-starring Bela Lugosi, a semi-sequel to Val Lewton's I Walked With a Zombie. Their contracts were terminated in 1946, after which they pursued solo careers. In the 1940s–50s, both appeared in various roles for Leslie Goodwins films. They reunited in 1961 in The Absent-Minded Professor. Wally's last years were filled with guest appearances in television, his last one in My Three Sons. Wally Brown had also been a regular cast member in television shows like I Married Joan, Cimarron City, and Daniel Boone.
