Maria Teresa Thierstein Simões-Ferreira Heinz , known as Teresa Heinz, is an American businesswoman and philanthropist, the widow of former U.S.... Senator H. John Heinz III , and the wife of U.S. Senator John Kerry . Maria Teresa Thierstein Simões Ferreira was born to Portuguese parents in Mozambique, at the time a colony of the Portuguese Empire. Her father was José Simões Ferreira Júnior , and her mother was Irene Thierstein , born a Portuguese and British national in Lourenço Marques. Irene was of Swiss-German, Italian, and French descent. She was the daughter of Alberto Thierstein, a British national from Valletta, Malta , and Maria Burló, born in Alexandria, Egypt, who both migrated to Portuguese East Africa. Heinz grew up in Portuguese East Africa's capital, Lourenço Marques . Her father was a physician and often brought her on calls into the African bush.

Albert Allick Bowlly was a Southern-African singer, songwriter, composer and band leader, who became a popular Jazz crooner during the British dance... band era of the 1930s and later worked in the United States. He recorded more than 1,000 records between 1927 and 1941. His most popular songs include "Midnight, the Stars and You", "Goodnight, Sweetheart", "The Very Thought of You", "Guilty", and "Love Is the Sweetest Thing". Born in Lourenço Marques in the then-Portuguese colony of Mozambique, Bowlly gained his musical experience singing for a dance band led by Edgar Adeler on a tour of South Africa, Rhodesia, India and Indonesia during the mid-1920s. He was then employed by Jimmy Liquime to perform in India, Calcutta, Singapore and the Raffles Hotel. In 1928, he arrived in England and briefly took part in a jazz band before being made redundant due to the 1930s depression. In 1930, he was spotted and signed to accompany both Roy Fox's and Ray Noble's orchestras that November. The signing with Noble led a to a successful association between the two which resulted in over 500 records being produced over a four-year period.

Ruy Alexandre Guerra Coelho Pereira is a film director, screenwriter, film editor, and actor in Brazil. Guerra was born a Portuguese citizen in... Lourenço Marques in Moçambique, when it was still a colony of Portugal. Guerra studied at IDHEC film school in Paris from 1952. In 1958 he started his career as an assistant director in several French films. Later on he immigrated to Brazil, where he directed his first feature film, Os Cafajestes . It was entered into the 12th Berlin International Film Festival. In 1964, Guerra directed Os Fuzis, which placed him in the forefront of the emerging Cinema Novo movement. The film was entered into the 14th Berlin International Film Festival where it won the Silver Bear Extraordinary Jury Prize. After that he directed the international production Tendres Chasseurs starring Sterling Hayden, and Os Deuses e os Mortos . The tumultuous political landscape in 1970's Brazil forced Guerra to stop filming until 1976, when he directed A Queda. The film was entered into the 28th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Bear - Special Jury Prize.

Neyma Julio Alfredo is a Mozambican singer, born on 6 May 1979 in Maputo. Neyma's passion for music began at a young age where she sang at various... events in and around Maputo. Neyma fully began her careen when she appeared on the TV show singing competition of Fantasia where she took in the second place. However, her breakthrough came when she was given a recording contract and released her first album, Brigas. Brigas, her freshman album, was released in 1999 and featured the popular singles, Brigas, Mae virtude mais bela and the well received single, Praia feliz, which gave her a big publicity for the album. The success of Brigas led her to release Baila in 2000 and Renascer in 2001. But it was Arromba, released in 2005, that brought Neyma back to the spotlight to being recognized as an acclaimed singer and recognized internationally as a major singing sensation from Mozambique and the Lusophone world. In early 2010, she released her 6th album entitled Neyma 10 Anos attributing for 10 years in the Mozambican music industry.
