The New York Giants are a professional American football team based in East Rutherford, New Jersey, representing the New York City metropolitan area. The Giants are currently members of the East Division of the National Football Conference in the National Football League . As a result of their victory in Super Bowl XLVI, the Giants are the reigning champions of the NFL. The Giants were one of five teams that joined the NFL in 1925, but the only one admitted that year which still exists. The team ranks third among all NFL franchises with eight NFL titles: four in the pre–Super Bowl era and four since the advent of the Super Bowl , XXV , XLII , and XLVI . Their championship tally is surpassed only by the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears . During their history, the Giants have featured 15 Hall of Fame players, including NFL Most Valuable Player award winners Mel Hein, Frank Gifford, Charlie Conerly, Y. A. Tittle, and Lawrence Taylor.
