Medford

The Peter Tufts House is a Colonial American house located at 350 Riverside Avenue, formerly known as Ship Street in Medford, Massachusetts. It is... currently thought to have been built between 1677-1678. Some historians consider it to be the oldest all-brick house in the United States. The house has been called the "fort" and the "garrison house" because of its thick walls and portholes. For many years it was believed that the house was built by Mathew Cradock, one of 35 founding members of the Massachusetts Bay Company who reputedly owned the first wooden toll bridge in America , however, Cradock only owned the land and never actually lived or even visited America. In 1677, Richard Russell of Charlestown sold the land with “one dwelling house and barn” to Mr. Peter Tufts [Sr.] of Charlestown, although a prior agreement may have been made with Tufts Sr. likely already settled on the land. The house was probably built by Peter Tufts Sr. , who sold it to his son, Peter Tufts Jr. in 1680. It is the son for whom the house is named. In 1728, the eastern side was sold to Edward Oakes of Malden.

Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford and The Osgood House is an historic Unitarian Universalist church building at 141 and 147 High Street in... Medford, Massachusetts. The congregation was founded in 1690 as a Puritan parish church that was an official branch of the Massachusetts state church. In 1696 the first meeting house was constructed. In the early 1820s the congregation split and was restructured with the 'orthodox' Trinitarian members leaving to form a separate congregation. The current and fifth building of the congregation was constructed in 1894 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975. The Rev. William Ellery Channing gave his first sermon at 1st Parish Medford on August 8th, 1802 "Silver and gold have I none, but such I give to you." The Rev. Thomas Starr King did his student ministry under Hosea Ballou II at 1st Universalist before Ballou moved to become the first president of Tufts College in 1852.

His raspy distinctive voice narrated many voice-overs in commercials and narrations of instructional films and commercials. Thayer David was born March 4, 1927, in Medford, Massachusetts. His father, Thayer Frye Hersey, was an executive in the paper pulp industry. David attended Harvard University in the 1940s but did not graduate, concentrating instead upon a career on the stage. With financial support from his father, he co-founded the Brattle Theater Company in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and established himself in the professional theatre.

Nicholson was born and raised in Medford, Massachusetts , and is the eldest of four siblings. After graduating from Arlington Catholic High School, she modeled in New York for six months, quit for a year, then resumed her modeling career in Paris for another six months. After returning to New York, she attended Hunter College as a general studies major for two years. While in New York, Nicholson supported herself by waitressing and eventually left school to study acting and begin her professional career. In her first feature film role, Nicholson she starred opposite Michael Caine and James Spader in the Peter Yates film Curtain Call. Later she won what proved to be both her breakthrough and favorite role as a headstrong young feminist in Peter Chan's The Love Letter. She has worked with other international directors in films such Alain Berliner's Passion of Mind, and Nick Hurran's Little Black Book.

Terri Lyne Carrington is a jazz drummer, composer, record producer and entrepreneur. She has played with jazz legends Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz,... Clark Terry, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Joe Sample, Al Jarreau, Yellowjackets, and many more. For example, she has toured with each of Hancock's musical configurations between 1997 and 2007. In 2007 she was appointed professor at her alma mater, Berklee College of Music, where she received an honorary doctorate in 2003. Carrington also serves as Artistic Director of the Berklee Beantown Jazz Festival. At 7, Carrington was given a set of drums which had belonged to her grandfather, Matt Carrington, who had played with Fats Waller and Chuck Berry. After studying privately for three years, she played her first major performance at the Wichita Jazz Festival with Clark Terry. At age 11 she received a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music. At 12 years old she was profiled on the PBS kids' biography program Rebop. At Berklee College of Music she played with leading musicians such as Kevin Eubanks, Donald Harrison, Greg Osby and others.

Carole "Cookie" Cole was an American actress and music producer as the CEO of King Cole Productions. She was sometimes credited as Carol Cole. Cole... was born in Medford, Massachusetts and was the adopted daughter of Nat King Cole and adopted sister of Natalie Cole. Her biological mother, Carol Hawkins, was the sister of Nat King Cole's wife, Maria. Through her mother, Cole was related to educator Charlotte Hawkins Brown. The eldest of Nat King Cole's children, she had three children, Caroline Clarke, Sage Zailm Cole, and Harleigh Maxim Cole. Cole died on May 19, 2009. She was 64 and is survived by all three of her children. Carole died, in hospital, while her sister Natalie was in another hospital undergoing kidney transplant surgery. Carole received an associate's degree at Cazenovia College and pursued a vital acting career that spanned theater, television and film. In 1964, she signed a contract with Columbia Pictures New Talent program, along with friend and colleague Harrison Ford.
