Medgar Evers College is a senior college of The City University of New York. Medgar Evers College was officially established in 1970 through cooperation from educators and community leaders in central Brooklyn. The College is named after Medgar Wiley Evers, a Mississippi-born black civil rights activist who, while serving in World War II, became disenchanted by the knowledge that he was fighting for freedom halfway around the world while he and other American blacks endured segregation and other forms of racism.
