Donté Dominic Greene is an American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings of the NBA. A 6-foot-11, 226-pound forward from Baltimore, Maryland, he played for the Syracuse Orange's basketball team for one year before being selected as the 28th overall pick by the Memphis... Grizzlies in the 2008 NBA Draft. Greene attended Towson Catholic High School, where he averaged 18.4 ppg., 6.8 rpg., 3.0 apg., 2.1 spg. and 4.3 bpg. as a senior in 2006–07 and helped Towson Catholic to a 32–6 record and to its second consecutive Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League titles. He was a 2007 McDonald's All-American, Maryland's 2007 Gatorade Player of the Year, was named to the Nike Brand All-America Team and selected to play in the 2007 Jordan Classic. In the class of 2007, he ranked as the No. 7 overall recruit and No. 2 power forward by scout.com and as No. 10 overall and the No. 3 small forward by rivals.com. Greene was named as a 2006 USA Men's U18 National Team member on June 26, 2006. He averaged 3.5 ppg. and 1.0 rpg.

Michael Alex "Mike" Conley, Jr. is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association . Conley is the son of Olympic gold and silver medalist triple jumper Mike Conley, Sr. and the nephew of former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker... Steve Conley. Born in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Conley attended Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he played with friend and future Ohio State teammate Greg Oden. The Memphis Grizzlies drafted Conley in 2007 as the fourth pick, and Conley has played his entire career with that team. Conley led Lawrence North to three straight state championships in high school and a record of 103 wins and 7 losses in his four years as the starting point guard. His senior year, he dished out a total of 123 assists. Conley finished second in the voting of the Indiana Mr. Basketball award to his teammate Greg Oden, who was the national player of the year. He was selected to the McDonald's All American team, which is the highest individual honor in high school basketball today. In that game, Conley led his team with a game-high 10 rebounds.

Kyle Lowry is an American professional basketball player with the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association. He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia where former Rocket Cuttino Mobley went. He was selected by the Grizzlies with the 24th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.... He declared for the draft after two seasons with Villanova University under coach Jay Wright. On opening night against the New York Knicks with Damon Stoudamire leaving the game early due to injury, Lowry played for 28 minutes posting 6 points , 3 assists, 2 steals, a block, and 10 rebounds. However, his rookie season was ended after just 10 games due to a broken wrist suffered at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena on November 21, 2006. Eight days later he underwent successful surgery on it. He averaged 5.6 points per game, 3.10 rebounds per game, and 3.2 assists per game. The next season , on December 7, 2007, Lowry registered 14 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists in 50 minutes in a 118-116 Grizzlies overtime loss to the New Orleans Hornets.

They have made the playoffs in 21 of the last 22 seasons, and have not missed the playoffs in the 15 seasons since Tim Duncan was drafted by the Spurs in 1997.

The franchise started with the 1947 purchase of a disbanded team, the Detroit Gems of the NBL. The new team began play in Minneapolis, Minnesota, calling themselves the Lakers in honor of the state's nickname, "Land of 10,000 Lakes". The Lakers won five championships in Minneapolis, propelled by center George Mikan, who is described by the NBA's official website as the league's "first superstar". After struggling financially in the late 1950s following Mikan's retirement, they relocated to Los Angeles before the 1960–61 season.

The Utah Jazz is a professional basketball team based in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are currently a part of the Northwest Division of the Western... Conference in the National Basketball Association . The franchise began in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz, in New Orleans, Louisiana, but the team moved to Utah in 1979 after just five seasons. The Jazz were one of the most unsuccessful teams in the league in their early years, and it would be 10 years before they made a playoff appearance . They would not miss the playoffs again until 2004. During the late 1980s, John Stockton and Karl Malone arose as the franchise players for the team, and formed one of the most famed point guard–power forward duos in NBA history. Led by coach Jerry Sloan, who took over for Frank Layden in 1988, they became one of the powerhouse teams of the 1990s, culminating in two NBA Finals appearances in 1997 and 1998, where they lost both times to the Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan. Both Stockton and Malone moved on in 2003. After missing the playoffs for three consecutive seasons the Jazz returned to prominence under the on-court leadership of point guard Deron Williams.
