Midland

Dow Diamond is a Minor League baseball stadium located in Midland, Michigan. It is the home of the Single-A Great Lakes Loons of the Midwest League.... The Loons are affiliated with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The stadium is located near Buttles, Ellsworth and State streets in Midland. The Dow Chemical Company, whose world headquarters are in Midland, donated the land for the stadium and also purchased the naming rights to the facility in 2006. The stadium name is a reference to both Dow's logo and that "diamond" is a slang term for a baseball field. The park opened April 13, 2007 and on June 8, 2007 it was announced that Dow Diamond would host the 2008 Midwest League All Star Game. The seating bowl can accommodate 3,100 persons, with an additional 100 on the Party Deck. The park features 12 luxury suites containing a total of 300 seats, a Green Room for waiting performers and 3 dressing rooms. The Dow Diamond indoors is a year-round facility that can be rented for most any event and the facility's catering company can provide anything from hors d'œuvres for two dozen to a formal dinner for two hundred or a reception for two thousand.

Alden B. Dow House and Studio, also known as Alden B. Dow Home & Studio, in Midland, Michigan, was the house and studio that were the residence... and acknowledged masterpiece of 20th century architect Alden B. Dow. The quality and originality of his work, as well as his association with Frank Lloyd Wright, have earned him lasting national recognition. Dow built his home and studio between 1937 and 1940, using a patented system known as "Unit Blocks". The Unit Blocks, one foot square, were cast from recycled cinders from the Dow Chemical Company. Dow used them to form walls and terraces, as well as ornamental elements such as stepping stones in the surrounding pond. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1989. The house is open to the public for tours.

She is most admired for her interpretations of the works of Richard Strauss and Richard Wagner. Studer was born in Midland, Michigan to parents Carl W. Studer and Elizabeth S. Studer , in a family of three children. She began studying the piano at age five and a few years later the viola. She became interested in becoming an opera singer after listening to the album "Callas à Paris" at the age of 12. Her mother and stepfather, Carl A. Peterson, Jr., responded by giving her voice lessons with Gwendolyn Pike, a local opera singer and voice teacher.
