The New York Knickerbockers, commonly known as the Knicks, are a professional basketball team based in New York City. They are part of the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association . Established in 1946, the organization was a founding member of the... Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after a merger with the rival National Basketball League in 1949. The Knicks are one of only two teams of the original National Basketball Association still located in its original city . The "Knickerbocker" name comes from the pseudonym used by Washington Irving for his book A History of New York, a name which became applied to the descendants of the original Dutch settlers of what later became New York, and later, by extension, to New Yorkers in general. The Knicks were successful during their early years and were constant playoff contenders. Beginning in 1950, the Knicks made three consecutive appearances in the NBA Finals, all of which were losing efforts.

Cherry Hill is a township in Camden County, New Jersey, in the United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the township had a population of 71,045, making it the state's 15th largest municipality, having seen an increase of 1,080 residents from its population of 69,965 in the 2000 Census,... when it was the state's 13th most populous municipality. Cherry Hill is in the Delaware Valley coastal plain about five miles southeast of Philadelphia. Cherry Hill is considered an edge city of Philadelphia. The area now known as Cherry Hill was originally settled by the Lenni-Lenape Native Americans who coexisted peacefully with the first settlers from England, Quaker followers of William Penn who arrived in the late 17th century. The first settlement was a small cluster of homes named Colestown, in the perimeters of what is now the Colestown Cemetery on the corner of Route 41 and Church Road. The municipality was founded on February 25, 1844, in Gloucester County as Delaware Township from half of the area of Waterford Township, and became part of Camden County at its creation some two weeks later on March 13, 1844.
