Mindanao State University is a public coeducational institution of higher education and research university located in the Islamic City of Marawi, Philippines. Founded in 1961 it is the flagship and the largest campus of the Mindanao State University System. The school was first conceived by the 1954 Congressional Committee of the Philippines, who saw in it an opportunity help create a sense of national identity. The university was founded on 1 September 1961 and opened in 1962 with 282 students and 12 faculty members on a single campus in Marawi City. The university expanded from that base... to include seven individual campuses in Buug, General Santos, Iligan, LNAC, LNCAT, Maguindanao and Naawan, housing a total of more than 53,000 students in 2011. That same year, there were over 3,000 faculty members. The Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development , with World Links, installed on May, 2008, the first computer laboratory at the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology , with 11 networked computers and broadband Internet access, for in-service and pre-service teachers.
