Miracle at St. Anna is a 2008 war film, directed by Spike Lee and written by James McBride, based on McBride's novel of the same name. The film was released on September 26, 2008, and is set during World War II, in fall of 1944 in Tuscany and in the winter of 1983 in New York City and Rome. The film stars Derek Luke, Laz Alonzo, Michael Ealy, and Omar Benson Miller, and co-stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Valentina Cervi, and John Turturro. The film opens in the winter of 1983 in New York City where an aged Puerto Rican World War II veteran Hector Negrón is working as a clerk at a post... office. In the midst of helping a customer, Negrón suddenly seems to recognize the man and immediately pulls a World War II-era German Luger from under the counter and shoots the man in the chest, killing him instantly. Several hours later, reporter Tim Boyle and Detective Antonio Ricci are at the crime scene seeking information.
