The game takes place in the 2005 MLB season, still using the tradition of "last year displayed", such as "Madden NFL 2005-06" listed as Madden 2006. However, the MLB 2005 season ended in 2005. MLB '06 takes place in 2006, marking the change to a more reasonable naming system.
