The Monash University Faculty of Science is one of the largest science faculties in Australia, with about 3,500 students. It offers both... undergraduate and postgraduate courses, from bachelor's degrees through to PhD. Originally, it was based entirely at Monash's Clayton campus, but since the 1990s it has extended to Gippsland and Malaysia. The faculty offers units of study in biological sciences, chemistry, geosciences, mathematics, and physics, among others. The School of Chemistry within the faculty was ranked the best in Australia for both teaching and research in 2009. Associated with the faculty are a number of student societies, including the Monash Science Society, the Biological Society, the Biomedical Society, the Monash Environmental Science Students Association, Monash University Geology Students, the Society of Physics and Mathematics and the Monash Weather and Climate Society. The faculty has been strengthened by the opening of the Australian Synchrotron at the Clayton campus , and the establishment of the Monash Centre for Synchtrotron Science, with which the faculty is affiliated.

Established in 1963, it offers... the LLB, J.D., LLM, S.J.D., LLD and PhD degrees in law. It has been ranked as one of the top 20 law schools in the world. As one of the Asia-Pacific's most prestigious and preferred law schools, its admission process is one of the most competitive in Australia. The Law School currently has approximately 2800 undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students, as well as several hundred academic staff, many of whom are world leaders in their field. Currently, almost all of the senior judicial positions in Victoria - including Chief Justice of Victoria, Chief Judge of the County Court, Chief Magistrate, President of VCAT, Chief Magistrate of the Children's Court, Solicitor-General and State Coroner - are occupied by Monash Law School graduates. The School's alumni are also prominent in business and government. The Monash University Law Review, the School's flagship review, is one of the scholarly refereed law journals based at Monash Law School.

Monash University, Parkville campus is a campus of Monash University, located in Parkville, Victoria, Australia. It is home to the Faculty of... Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, previously known as the Victorian College of Pharmacy. A centre of research and teaching, it is particularly well known for its research in drug development and formulation science, including the discovery and development of the world's first successful anti-influenza drug, Relenza. The campus is made up of 4 buildings, the latest one being first occupied in 2007. The newest, fourth building is primarily a research building, to complement the campuse's strong research background. The campus is situated on Royal Parade in the suburb of Parkville, around 2 km north of the Melbourne CBD. Royal Parade is home to a number of other research institutions, including the University of Melbourne, the CSIRO's Division of Health Sciences and the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Pharmaceutical company CSL Limited is also based in Parkville. The campus offers courses in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science.Students can also take simultaneous degrees in commerce or engineering at Monash University's Clayton Campus.

It is the largest health care faculty of any Australian university, and is part of the largest university in Australia. The faculty operates from Monash University campuses in Australia, Malaysia and South Africa. The Clayton, Peninsula and Caulfield campuses are all based in metropolitan Melbourne, and the Gippsland campus is in rural Victoria, where it can best contribute to the faculty’s strengths in rural health research and education. The medical course at the University's Sunway campus in Malaysia is the only program outside of Australia to be accredited by the Australian Medical Council, and is also accredited by the Malaysian Medical Council. Researchers, clinicians and students are also based at major hospital sites, particularly at The Alfred, Monash Medical Centre, and Bendigo Hospital.

The Faculty of Business and Economics at Monash University, Melbourne is the largest university faculty in Australia. It is home to over 16,000... students and staff. In teaching, it offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate degrees. The Faculty's teaching and research are spread across most of Monash University's campuses, including Clayton, Caulfield, Malaysia, Gippsland, Peninsula, Berwick, South Africa and Prato. The Dean of the Faculty is Professor Stephen King. The current Faculty structure is the result of the amalgamation of the Monash University Faculty of Economics, based at the University's Clayton Campus, and the David Syme School of Business, based at what is now the University's Caulfield Campus. Traditionally, the Clayton Campus was strong in economic research, but underperformed in industry training. Conversely, the David Syme School was one of Australia's leading business schools in professional training, but lacked a strong research base. The early 1990s merger, though opposed by some at the time, was seen as a way to bring together these parallel areas of expertise. The Faculty is particularly well-known for its Master of Business Administration.

The Peninsula campus of Monash University is Monash's fifth-largest campus, with over 3,000 students and almost 300 staff. The campus is located at... the "Gateway to the Mornington Peninsula", in the Bayside suburb of Frankston. It continues to specialise in its historical strengths of health and early childhood education. Monash teaching in primary education, nursing and physiotherapy are all based at Peninsula Campus. The campus offers programs from undergraduate through to PhD level. It has research strengths in health and well-being, education and business. At any one time, there are around 100 higher degree by research students at Peninsula Campus. The Peninsula Campus of Monash University was originally a teacher's college, which opened in 1959. It was based in the historic Struan House, an early 20th century building which is now the Monash Peninsula Postgraduate Studies Centre. The College gained independence and state funding in the early 1970s, and from 1974 was known as the State College at Frankston. During this time, it educated many teachers who went on to become quite well known in children's education, such as author Paul Jennings.

Monash University's South Africa campus was opened in 2001. It was first foreign university established in South Africa. It is located on a 100... hectare site in Ruimsig in north-west Johannesburg, in the province of Gauteng. It has been described by one high-ranking Australian official as Australia's most significant partnership with Africa in any sphere. The student mix at Monash South Africa is diverse. In addition to domestic students, the campus is also home to many students from other African states who are funded by government bursaries. For example, a large number of students from Botswana attend the university. Furthermore, the number of students on exchange from Monash's Australian and Malaysian campuses makes it one of the most ethnically diverse universities in Africa. Many students live in the on-campus accommodation. The campus is wholly owned by Monash University. The current Pro Vice-Chancellor of the South Africa campus is Professor Tyrone Pretorius, a psychologist who has previously held research and administrative positions at the University of the Western Cape and Yale University.

Monash University, Caulfield campus is a campus of Monash University located in Caulfield, which is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, in the state of... Victoria. The university comprises 13,400 students of which 52.8% are female and 57.1% of students are enrolled in undergraduate courses. Before its incorporation into Monash University, the campus was known as Chisholm Institute of Technology, which was created from the union of Caulfield Institute of Technology and the State College of Victoria at Frankston. The campus was founded as the Caulfield Technical School in 1922, making it the second oldest campus of Monash University . A Junior Technical High School was added in the 1950s, with the Technical School becoming a Senior Technical High School. They separated in 1958 with the junior school absorbed by other technical schools in the area and the senior school became Caulfield Technical College. In the 1970s it became the Caulfield Institute of Technology. In 1982 the Caulfield Institute of Technology amalgamated with the State College of Victoria at Frankston to form the Chisholm Institute of Technology.

The Monash University Prato Centre is a teaching and research centre in Tuscany. It is located in an 18th century palace, the Palazzo Vaj, in the... historical centre of Prato. It was opened on 17 September 2001, as part of Monash University's internationalisation policy. It was established with the assistance of the local government of Prato, the region of Tuscany and prominent Italian-Australians Rino and Diana Grollo. The Centre aims to develop Australia's links with Europe, through research collaboration, seminars and conferences, and as a centre of study for Australian students. It is now the largest Australian institution of its kind in Europe. Dr. Loretta Baldassar, former Chair of the Australasian Centre for Italian Studies, is the current Director. The Centre's patron is Sir James Gobbo, AC, an Australian jurist who was the first Governor of Victoria of Italian descent. Prato is a city and comune in Tuscany. It is 24 km from Florence, accessible by road or a 20 minute train ride. It is a centre of Italy's textile industry and of the slow food movement.

Monash University, Berwick Campus is a campus of Monash University located in Berwick, which is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, in the state of... Victoria. It offers degrees in Business and Commerce, Communications, Multimedia and Information Technology. It is situated in the City of Casey, one of Australia's fastest growing areas and approximately 2000 students attend. The institution opened in 1996. It is small in comparison to other campuses, covering an area of only 55 hectares; however, there are plans for the campus to be extended to fill the abundance of land surrounding the current buildings. A student accommodation building was completed in 2006 to stabilise the demand generated by both local and the vast number of international students. The campus celebrated its 10th anniversary on 29 April 2006. The campus is situated next to the Clyde Road exit ramp on the Princes Freeway. It takes approximately 45 minutes to travel to the campus from the Melbourne CBD, and 90 minutes in peak-hour traffic. Permit parking is offered to students and staff as well as coin-operated daily ticket parking for infrequent drivers. The Berwick train station is a seven minute walk to the campus.

The Gippsland campus of Monash University is located in the town of Churchill 142 km east of Melbourne. There are around 2,000 students studying... on-campus and 5,000 students who study off-campus. The campus faculties include Business and Economics; Arts; IT; Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences; Education; Science and Art and Design. The current head of the campus is Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Helen Bartlett, who was appointed on August 4 2008. The Gippsland Education Precinct was recently completed at the Campus, which provides education and training for Year 11 and 12 secondary school and TAFE students. The campus began as the Yallourn Technical School in 1928, in order to train State Electricity Commission of Victoria workers for the Yallourn Power Station. It became Yallourn Technical College in 1958. The Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education took over College courses after it was formed in 1968 at its current location of Churchill. It was amalgamated with Monash University in 1990, initially becoming Monash University College, before becoming a campus of the University in the mid-1990s.

The purpose of the Monash University Faculty of Arts is 'the pursuit, advancement and application of knowledge in the humanities, social and... environmental sciences and creative and performing arts'. It offers degrees from undergraduate to PhD level. Entrance into the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts program is competitive, as it is the most popular Arts degree among university applicants in Victoria. The Faculty of Arts was one of the foundation faculties of Monash University. In 1961, the faculty enrolled about 150 students out of a University total of about 360. At the peak of enrolments in Arts in Australia in the 1970s, the faculty taught 11,000 students. Today, student enrolments number approximately 7,500. Initially, the Faculty consisted only of the Departments of English, History, Philosophy and Modern Languages . During the 1960s and 70s, this expanded to include a range of new disciplines. Some of these, such as sociology and Indonesian, had never previously been taught in Australia.

Monash University, Clayton Campus is the main campus of Monash University located in Clayton, which is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, in the state... of Victoria. The campus covers an area of over 1.1 km² and is the largest of the Monash University campuses, both in terms of size and student population. Clayton Campus currently has over 25, 000 students. The campus has its own suburb and is one of the few university campuses in Australia to have its own postcode , and shares the telephone number extension of 990 with the other city campuses of the university. The Campus features a wide range of native Australian flora and fauna, including over 2000 different kinds of plant life. The campus is located in the south-east Melbourne suburb of Clayton. This part of Melbourne contains the greatest density of high technology industries in Victoria. As well as the Australian Synchrotron, the Clayton Campus is adjacent to the CSIRO. Bosch, Bayer, Varian, Inc. and several other science and technology companies are also located nearby. Victoria's only specialist science and mathematics high school, the John Monash Science School, is also located on the Campus.

David Keith Williamson AO is one of Australia's best-known playwrights. He has also written screenplays and teleplays. David Williamson was born in... Melbourne and brought up in Bairnsdale, Victoria. He initially studied mechanical engineering at the University of Melbourne from 1960. His early forays into the theatre were as an actor and writer of skits for the Engineers' Revue at Melbourne University's Union Theatre at lunchtime during the early 1960s. After a stint as a lecturer for Swinburne University, he turned to writing plays in 1967. Williamson rose to prominence in the early 1970s, with works such as Don's Party , a comic drama set during the 1969 federal election; and The Removalists . He also collaborated on the screenplays for Gallipoli and The Year of Living Dangerously . Williamson's work as a playwright focuses on themes of politics, loyalty and family in contemporary urban Australia, particularly in two of its major cities, Melbourne and Sydney. Major works include The Club, The Department, Travelling North, The Perfectionist, Emerald City, Money and Friends and Brilliant Lies.

Peter Sutton FASSA is an Australian social anthropologist and linguist who has, over a period of almost 40 years , significantly contributed to:... recording Australian Aboriginal languages; promoting Australian Aboriginal art; mapping Australian Aboriginal cultural landscapes; and increasing societies' general understanding of contemporary Australian Aboriginal social structures and systems of land tenure. Most recently, Peter Sutton has shifted his anthropological focus away from Aboriginal Australian subjects themselves, and more towards the nature and effect of the public policy that has governed those Aboriginal Australian's over the 40 years he has been conducting anthropological research: "Through personal observation, forensic rigour and an anthropologist's eye, he questions the foundations on which 40 years of public policy, often imposed with bipartisan goodwill, has been constructed" In 2004-2008 Sutton held an Australian Research Council Professorial Fellowship at the University of Adelaide's School of Earth & Environmental Sciences and within the South Australian Museum's Division of Anthropology.
