Monterrey

Arena Monterrey is an indoor arena in Monterrey, Mexico. It is primarily used for concerts, shows and indoor sports like indoor soccer or basketball.... It used to be the home arena of the Monterrey Fury indoor soccer team and the Fuerza Regia, a professional basketball team in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional and the Monterrey La Raza, a team in the NISL. The Arena Monterrey is owned by Publimax S.A. de C.V. , part of the Avalanz Group, who owns 80% and by TV Azteca who owns 20%. The arena is 480,000 square feet in size. The project of the arena started on 1989 when the Asociacion para el Fomento de Deporte y Recreacion A.C, led by the businessmen Jorge Lankenau and Hernan Garza presented the project to the then president Carlos Salinas. The project gained support from the Government of the State of Nuevo León who gave the land for the arena to be constructed within the limits of Fundidora Park. The arena was originally planned to begin construction in May 1992, and finished by 1993, but the construction actually started on January 1994, and was planned to be finished by 1996.

The Estadio de Fútbol Monterrey is a stadium currently under development for FEMSA and CF Monterrey in Guadalupe, Greater Monterrey. The project... was met with much controversy, stemming from the multiple accusations of the construction as an apparent impediment to the wildlife growth on a local scale. Regardless, the project was greenlit in August 2011, and is expected to begin construction proper in October of the same year, involving approximately 30 months total in development time. The Monterrey Stadium will be the most recent generation venue responsibly planned and integrated into its surroundings by its architectural design, created by one of the firms that have developed more stadiums than any firm in the world: Populous , and VFO Architects , one of the most experienced companies in sporting venues in Mexico. Populous has led the design of hundreds of projects, among many others: The project is planned to have a capacity of few over 50,000 people, an authentic grass surface, Suites, a club-themed Restaurant, a club lounge, and high-end interior and exterior design.

The Palacio del Obispado is one of Monterrey's oldest buildings. The Palace was constructed in the middle of a hill by the end of the 18th century.

The Estadio Internacional Monterrey is a proposed stadium for the Mexican city of Monterrey, Nuevo León. If constructed it will open in 2011.... Even though CF Monterrey has decided to built its own stadium, the Estadio Internacional Monterrey still has to be shared by both clubs. The two main reasons are: The size of the stadium requires both clubs to function properly, The UANL's contract has not yet concluded with the University. The stadium will give more opportunities for a possible bid for 2020 Olympic Games, a bid that the city of Monterrey has been looking since 2005.

Alicia Villarreal is a Mexican Latin Grammy award-winning singer. Villarreal first performed the song Mundo De Juguetes at Pipo, a local TV show her... parents took her to. Her first professional performance was at a church fundraiser. In 1995, Grupo Límite, group of Musica Grupera with her as lead singer, started touring with the more famous Grupo Bronco. Among their songs were "Acariciame", "Te Aprovechas" and "Solo Contigo". Grupo Limite released six albums altogether, including a live CD recorded in Mexico City. In 2001, Alicia released her first solo album in the ranchera style titled Soy Lo Prohibido. It launched the single Te Quedo Grande la Yegua. In it, she sings to her man, telling him that she is too much woman for him to handle. In 2004, after parting ways with her bandmates, she released her second solo album entitled Cuando el Corazón se Cruza. The album was produced by her current husband, Cruz Martínez, and they wrote several of the songs together. The album has garnered her several awards.

Adalberto Javier Ramones Martínez is a Mexican television show host and comedian who is known for his comments on Mexican and international... social life. Ramones was the host of a popular Mexican television show, Otro Rollo, which was produced by Televisa and televised in 53 other countries, including the United States, where the show was transmitted by Univision. Ramones was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León. He suffered heart disease for a long period of his life. After several operations, he is recovered. In 2000, Ramones also suffered a kidnapping. Since 1998, Ramones is romantically involved with Gaby Valencia. Their first child, daughter Paola Ramones, was born in 2001. On October 10, 2002, he suffered an accident where he caught on fire during the "Reto Burundis" in Otro Rollo. In February 2003, Ramones suffered burns to several parts of his body as he was taping his show, requiring hospitalization. He had to wear glasses a period of time after this.

Pablo Portillo is a famous Mexican singer and actor. Portillo was a member of Mexican group Liberacion and later a member of MDO. With MDO, Portillo... toured across Latin America, the United States, and Mexico. Portillo was in MDO with Didier Hernandez, Abel Talamantez and Alexis Grullon, among others. During Portillo's time in MDO, the group achieved their most successful phase of the MDO era. Portillo released his first CD, Demasiado, in 2006 which earned him several nominations and awards in Puerto Rico, United States and Latin America. In 2007, he recorded his second album and worked in Telemundo's soap opera Pecados Ajenos as Hector, one of the young cast members. In 2011, he works with Azteca in Emperatriz as the PR of the show.

Pablo Santos was a Mexican actor. Santos was born in Monterrey, Nuevo León in Mexico. At the age of 12 he moved with his family to Los Angeles,... California in the United States. He began an acting career and starred as the son of a Mexican-American family portrayed in Greetings from Tucson, which ran on the WB network from 2002 to 2003. After the series ended, he appeared in the 2004 film Party Animalz. He also appeared in television shows such as Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Boston Public. He was member of the Church of Scientology. On 15 September 2006, Santos died in a plane crash just short of the runway at Toluca airport, west of Mexico City. He was heading from Monterrey to Acapulco to celebrate Mexican Independence Day with six friends in a private light plane, a Piper Malibu Mirage PA 46, which crashed while attempting an emergency landing due to low fuel levels. Another passenger, Martel Fernández, died the following day, while the others on board were hospitalized for minor injuries.

Marcelo Treviño is a Mexican singer-songwriter and record producer who has been performing since the age of 10. Marcelo started out as front... man for various bands in Monterrey, Mexico. His interest in music proved compelling enough to Marcelo that he decided to leave his native Monterrey to study music at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated with a dual major in Film Scoring and Songwriting. After completing his college majors, Marcelo left for Toronto, Canada. He took part in independent musical productions as producer and arranger. He then returned to Monterrey temporarily to serve as the Director of the Cultural Activities department at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. Shortly thereafter, he left the job and travelled to Peru, where he once again performed and wrote music. After performing and travelling extensively, Marcelo returned home to Toronto to write, record and pre-produce most of what would eventually become his first commercial solo artist album.

Lumi Cavazos is a Mexican actress who won the Best Actress awards at the Tokyo Film Festival, and Brazil’s Festival de Gramado for her... portrayal of "Tita" in the 1993 adaptation of Laura Esquivel’s Mexican novel, Like Water for Chocolate. The film grabbed the attention of US film critics and moviegoers, and facilitated her entry into the American film industry. She subsequently relocated to Los Angeles. Born in Monterrey, Cavazos began her acting career at the age of 15, and made her film debut in Busi Cortes’ 1988 El Secreto de Romalia. She has acted in numerous Mexican films and television series since then, and has also done a fair amount of work in the U.S., appearing in television dramas as well as a singing role in the film Sugar Town. Cavazos is sometimes credited as "Rosita Lumi Cavazos". Was engaged to Italian actor Marco Leonardi from 1991 to 1999.

Erika Buenfil is a Mexican actress best known for her work in telenovelas. Buenfil has also enjoyed minor success as a recording artist. Buenfil... started her career in showbiz at the age of 12. Her first telenovela appearance was in 1977 in Acompañame. More roles followed in Ambicion, alongside Edith Gonzalez, "Conflictos de un Medico" alongside Victoria Ruffo, Aprendiendo a Amar alongside Susana Dosamantes. An outstanding role was Cristina del Junco in the telenovela El derecho de nacer in 1981, which gave Erika international exposure as an upcoming young actress. In 1983 Erika played role of Vicky de Martino in El Maleficio. The success of the novela gave Erika her first starring role in 1985 in Angelica where she played the title character. At this point she became recognizable in Latin America thanks to her success in novelas and hosting the Mexican show XETU. The following year in 1986 Erika Buenfil starred in El Engaño, alongside Frank Moro, Guillermo Garcia Cantu, and Luz Maria Jerez. Two years later in 1988, Buenfil appeared in Amor en silencio. This was her third starring role and the most memorable.

Alfonso "Poncho" Herrera is a Mexican actor and ex-member of the music group RBD. Alfonso Herrera Rodríguez was born in Mexico City. He has an... older brother, Alejandro,younger brother, Oscar and a younger sister Christina. He attended the Edron Academy, a prestigious high class British school, alongside Gael García Bernal and Ximena Sariñana and graduated in 2002. Herrera originally wanted to become a pilot and was going to move to San Antonio, Texas to enroll in an aviation school. He changed his mind and decided to enroll at the Centro de Educación Artística run by Latin American media giant Televisa. Following his completion at the Centro de Educación Artística, Herrera began working professionally in theater. He performed in Las Brujas de Salem , Como matar a un ruiseñor and Antigona . In 2002, he was cast in the film Amar te duele, directed by Fernando Sariñana, and from there moved into television, working in the telenovela Clase 406, alongside Dulce Maria, Anahí, and Christian Chávez, who later became his bandmates in RBD.
