The Canadian Centre for Architecture is a museum of architecture and research centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Phyllis Lambert is the Founding... Director and Chair of the Board of Trustees, and Mirko Zardini is the Director and Chief Curator. The centre is located at 1920 Baile street and was designed by Montreal native architect Peter Rose, now of Rose + Guggenheimer Studio . Completed in 1989, it incorporates the Shaughnessy House mansion, built for Thomas Shaughnessy, a Second Empire-style mansion that Lambert purchased in 1974 to prevent its demolition. The Shaughnessy House at 1923 Dorchester St. W was completed by William Thomas , a Montreal architect, in 1876. The mansion faces René Lévesque Boulevard, a facing sculpture garden by Melvin Charney. The mansion is a National Historic Site of Canada. The CCA received the Honor Award for Architecture from the American Institute of Architects and the Governor General's Medals in Architecture in 1992. Most of the rooms of the Shaughnessy mansion have been restored to their original 1874 state. The centre offers tours adapted to specific groups and educational programs for children.

Place des Arts is a major performing arts centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Located in the eastern part of the city's downtown, between... Ste-Catherine and de Maisonneuve Streets, and St-Urbain and Jeanne-Mance streets, in an area now known as the Quartier des Spectacles, the complex is home to the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and the Opéra de Montréal. Place des Arts was an initiative of Mayor Jean Drapeau, a noted lover of opera, as part of a project to expand the downtown core eastward from the concentration of business and financial activity in the centre-west part of downtown. The Corporation George-Étienne-Cartier, named in honour of George-Étienne Cartier, a Father of Confederation and opera lover, was set up to build it, and the first part of the complex was inaugurated on September 21, 1963. The other theatres were added progressively. The Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal was added to the complex on May 28, 1992.

The McCord Museum is a public research and teaching museum dedicated to the preservation, study, diffusion, and appreciation of Canadian history.... The museum, whose full name is McCord Museum of Canadian History, is located at 690 Sherbrooke Street West, next to McGill University, in downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The museum was founded in 1921 by David Ross McCord, based on his own family collection of objects. Since then the museum's holdings have increased substantially. This collection of 15,800 objects documents many aspects of the ways of life, arts, cultures and traditions of the Aboriginal peoples of Canada. It also includes a number of objects from communities living in Alaska and the northern United States. In this collection there are more than 7,300 historical aboriginal objects, dating from the early 1800s to 1945 and more than 8,500 archaeological objects dating from about 10,000 years ago to the 16th century .

Victor 'Vic' Stefan Vogel, LLD, PhD is a jazz pianist, composer, arranger, trombonist and conductor in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Born Viktor Stefan... in Montreal, he studied piano with Michel Hirvy. Vogel has written, arranged and conducted music for ceremonies at Expo 67, the Montreal Olympics in 1976, the Canada Games in 1985 and for the half-time events at the Grey Cup in 1981 and 1985. For the Olympics he arranged welcoming and theme songs from excerpts of works by André Mathieu. He's the only musician who has played twenty years in a row at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, playing concerts with Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Jerry Mulligan, Slide Hampton, Cannonball Adderley, Chucho Valdés, Oliver Jones and Mel Torme. In 2007, he was the subject of the feature-length documentary film, "The Brass Man" . On November 1, 2010, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in Music from Concordia University.

Gregory "Greg" Rusedski is a British Canadian former tennis player who turned professional in 1991 and played until his retirement on 7 April 2007,... at the age of 33. He is a former British Number 1 and ATP World Number 4. Rusedski now provides commentary and analysis on the BBC's Wimbledon coverage. Rusedski's first career singles tournament title was at the Hall of Fame Championship in Newport, Rhode Island in 1993. Rusedski reached the singles final of the US Open in 1997, where he lost to Pat Rafter in four sets, . He also won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award. In 1998, Tim Henman eclipsed Rusedski as Britain's number one tennis player. Rusedski, however, won the Grand Slam Cup in 1999. Rusedski was defeated in the second round of Wimbledon in 2005 by Joachim Johansson of Sweden 7–6, 3–6, 6–4, 7–6. Following that disappointment, Rusedski had a successful July. He successfully defended his title at the Hall of Fame Championship, defeating Vince Spadea in the final.

Mark Robson was a Canadian-born film editor, film director and producer in Hollywood. Born in Montreal, Quebec, he moved to the United States at a... young age. He studied at the University of California, Los Angeles then found work in the prop department at 20th Century Fox studios. He eventually went to work at RKO Pictures where he began training as a film editor. In 1940 he worked as an assistant to Robert Wise on the editing of Citizen Kane in addition to several other films. Both he and Wise benefited tremendously from producer and screenwriter Val Lewton, who promoted Robson from film editor to production assistant and later as director. In 1943, at the insistence of Lewton, Robson assisted Lewton and director Jacques Tourneur in a series of low-budget horror films produced by Val Lewton, including Cat People and I Walked with a Zombie. Later, Lewton was instrumental in promoting Robson to the director's chair for films such as The Seventh Victim , Robson's first directing credit, and the troubled Isle of the Dead .

Kevin Hamilton McDonald is a Canadian comedian and actor, known as a member of the Canadian sketch comedy group The Kids in the Hall. McDonald was... born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Sheila and Hamilton McDonald, who was a dental equipment salesman. He moved to Los Angeles, California at the age of seven, after his father was transferred there. His family subsequently lived in Toronto, Ontario as well. McDonald has a younger sister, Sandra. During his youth he had a weight problem. It wasn't until just prior to the Kids' TV show in the late 1980s that he went from overweight to rather skinny. Several sketches and monologues allude to the issue, and a stockier McDonald can be seen in archival footage on The Kids in the Hall on DVD box sets. Kevin also stars as a co-pilot in the new web comedy series Papillon. McDonald founded The Kids in the Hall with friend Dave Foley. They met in Toronto at the Second City Training Center, and the two wrote and performed in sketches together more than any other pair in the group.

Naomi Klein is a Canadian author and social activist known for her political analyses and criticism of corporate globalization. Klein was born in... Montreal, Quebec and brought up in a Jewish family with a history of peace activism. Her parents had moved to Montreal from the U.S. in 1967 as war resisters to the Vietnam War. Her mother, documentary film-maker Bonnie Sherr Klein, is best known for her anti-pornography film Not a Love Story. Her father, Michael Klein, is a physician and a member of Physicians for Social Responsibility. Her brother, Seth Klein, is director of the British Columbia office of the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives. Her paternal grandparents were communists who began to turn against the Soviet Union after the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and had abandoned communism by 1956. In 1942 her grandfather Phil Klein, an animator at Disney, was fired after the Disney animators' strike, and went to work at a shipyard instead. Klein's father grew up surrounded by ideas of social justice and racial equality, but found it "difficult and frightening to be the child of Communists", a so-called red diaper baby.

Galt MacDermot is a Canadian composer, pianist and writer of musical theatre. He won a Grammy Award for the song African Waltz in 1960. His most... successful musicals have been Hair and Two Gentlemen of Verona . MacDermot has also written music for film soundtracks, jazz and funk albums, and classical music, and his music has been sampled in hit hip-hop songs and albums. MacDermot was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of a Canadian diplomat. He was educated at Upper Canada College and Bishop's University . He received a Bachelor of Music from Cape Town University, South Africa and made a study of African music his specialty. He also studied the piano privately with Neil Chotem. MacDermot won his first Grammy Award for the Cannonball Adderley recording of his song "African Waltz" in 1960. He moved to New York City in 1964 where, three years later, he wrote the music for the hit musical Hair, which he later adapted for the 1979 film. Its Broadway cast album won a Grammy Award in 1969.
