Game Overview

Shocking and evil, MORTAL KOMBAT: DECEPTION pushes martial arts-style fighting and the Mortal Kombat franchise to new heights with an innovative fighting system, unparalleled depth and brutally intense action that will appeal to long-time Mortal Kombat fans as well as next-generation gamers. The game features lightning-fast hand-to-hand and special weapons combat, secret and returning characters, moves and combinations with new death-dealing battles and fatalities?

The Good

Big cast of characters, including many MK classics, Fun, fast-paced combat system, Lots of bonus content, Two exclusive characters on the GameCube.

The Bad

No online play, unlike on the PS2 and Xbox, Konquest mode is weak, Some awkward animations.

The Bottom Line

The sixth episode of the violent and visceral fighting series from Midway pounces on the success of MK: Deadly Alliance to tear even more pain and gameplay pleasure out of the Mortal Kombat beast. Destructible environments and break-through walls that lead to other arenas or fatality zones hearken back to the glory days of the series' surprise smash-through stages, while favorite characters from the series such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Mileena and the returning Baraka all vie for the chance to choose the fate of the world again.

The core one-on-one fighting action is easily the best part of the game. It's gory, intense, and quite complex, meaning it captures much of what has made MK an institution among fighting games.

A great diversion from the usual fighting template. So while it may not be as complex or responsive as a number of other 3D (or even 2D) fighters out there, it's a hell of a lot of fun (whether you stink at it or not).

One of the best fighting games ever made

The game is very good, but not perfect. The Gamecube version also includes Goro and Shao Kahn.
