Mötley Crüe

Elektra Records is an American record label owned by Warner Music Group. In 2004, it was consolidated into WMG's Atlantic Records Group. After five years of dormancy, the label was revived by Atlantic in 2009. Elektra was formed in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickolt in Holzman's St. John's... College dorm room. Each invested $300. The usual spelling of the Greek mythological Pleiad Electra was changed. Holzman famously explained, “I gave her the ‘K’ that I lacked”. He found the 'C' in the original name "too soft" but liked the "solid bite" of the letter 'K', citing its use in the Kodak name. The first Elektra LP, New Songs , was a collection of Lieder and similar 'art' songs which sold few copies. During the Fifties and early Sixties the label concentrated on folk music recordings, releasing a number of best-selling albums by Theodore Bikel, Ed McCurdy, Oscar Brand, Judy Collins and protest singers such as Phil Ochs and Tom Paxton. Holzman also recorded Josh White, who was without a record deal as a result of McCarthyite blacklisting. In 1964, Elektra launched Nonesuch Records.

Mötley Records is the current record label for the heavy metal band Mötley Crüe. Albums the company has made with Mötley Crüe include Saints of Los Angeles, Red, White and Crüe, Generation Swine, and New Tattoo as well as all the original albums that have been... remastered. The record company is the band's third. It was originally distributed by Beyond Records, which in turn was distributed by BMG. Beyond Records folded shortly afterwards. Now the label is currently distributed by Hip-O Records and Universal Music Group, though since 2008 this has been limited to non-US distribution, as the label is now distributed by Eleven Seven Music and Warner Music Group in North America.

Eleven Seven Music is a record label founded by Allen Kovac, who is the CEO of 10th Street Entertainment. Eleven Seven has recently enjoyed success with the rejuvenated Buckcherry, whose label debut has been certified Platinum by the RIAA. Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe and Sixx:A.M. was named... president in early 2008. Eleven Seven was named "Rock Label of the Year" in 2008 by Friday Morning Quarterback. In 2009 Eleven Seven Music started sublabel called Five Seven Music which is currently home for Jet and She Wants Revenge.

Rock music is a genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States. It has... its roots in 1940s and 1950s rock and roll, itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources. Musically, rock has centered around the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with bass guitar and drums. Typically, rock is song-based music with a 4/4 beat utilizing a verse-chorus form, but the genre has become extremely diverse and common musical characteristics are difficult to define. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.
