The Sheshrao Krushnarao Wankhede Stadium is a cricket stadium in the Indian city of Mumbai. This ground was built after disputes between the Cricket... Club of India, which owns the Brabourne Stadium, and the Mumbai Cricket Association over the allocation of tickets for cricket matches. This became severe after the Test between India and England in 1973. At the initiative of S. K. Wankhede, a politician and the secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association, MCA built the new stadium in South Mumbai near the Churchgate station. It was built in six months and opened in time for the final Test between India and the West Indies in 1975. Since then the Wankhede stadium has taken over from Brabourne Stadium as the main cricketing venue in the city. The stadium has a capacity of 33,442 and is always in contention to host an international match in India. It has been host to numerous high profile cricket matches in the past, including the match in which Ravi Shastri hit six sixes in an over. The stadium was recently renovated in the build up to host the 2011 Cricket World Cup, in which India defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus , is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and historic railway station in Mumbai which serves as the headquarters of the... Central Railways. Situated in the Bori Bunder area of Mumbai, it was built as a new railway station on the location of the Bori Bunder Station in 1887 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria. In 1996 its name was changed to the present name in honour of the Maratha warrior Shivaji. Its abbreviations CST or VT are popularly used by locals to refer to the station and it is also known by its abbreviation CSTM or Bombay VT. It is the busiest railway station in India, and serves both as a terminal for long distance trains terminating in Mumbai as well as the Mumbai Suburban Railway. The site on which this station is situated, Bori Bunder, is of great historical importance and is associated with the origins of Mumbai as a city. The city derives its name from the goddess Mumba Devi, and the earliest temple dedicated to her is believed to have stood at the site of the Victoria Terminus. The original shrine was demolished in 1317 by Mubarak Shah and reconstructed.

Eros Cinema is an Art Deco style Movie theater located in Mumbai, India. It has a seating capacity of 1204 people per show. Architects Shorabji... Bhedwar designed the Streamline Moderne building, it marked the beginning of Back Bay reclamation in early 1938. The foundation of Eros Cinema was laid in 1935. The cinema opened in 1938 and construction of this building on the then newly reclaimed Backbay plot housing shops and other businesses, apart from the cinema, took about two and a half years to complete. Partially faced with red Agra sandstone, this building is painted cream. The two wings of this Art Deco building meet up in a central block. The foyer is in white and black marble with touches of gold. Marble staircases with chromium handrails lead up to the upper floor. The murals are in muted colours depicting Indian architectures.

The Phiroze Jeejeebhoy Towers, popularly known by its original name of BSE Towers, is a 29 storey building in downtown Mumbai on Dalal Street, near... its intersection with the Mumbai Samachar Marg. The building is owned and occupied by the Bombay Stock Exchange . Prior to 1928, the Bombay Stock Exchange operated out of a building near the Town Hall. The present site near Horniman Circle was acquired by the exchange in 1928, and a building was constructed and occupied in 1930. The street on which the site is located came to be called Dalal Street due to the location of the exchange. Construction of the current towers began in the late 1970s, with the building completed and occupied by the BSE in 1980. It was initially called BSE Towers. Soon after occupation, following the death of Sir Phiroze Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy, chairman of the BSE since 1966, the building was renamed in his memory. At the time of its completion, it was the tallest building in India, although it has since lost that claim to newer buildings. The building was a target of the 1993 Bombay bombings.

Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand , better known as Dev Anand, was an Indian film actor, writer, director and producer known for his work in Hindi cinema.... Part of the Anand family, he co-founded Navketan Films in 1949, with his elder brother Chetan Anand. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002 for his contribution to Indian cinema. Dev was born Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand on 26 September 1923 in the Shakargarh tehsil of the Gurdaspur district in Punjab . His father Pishori Lal Anand was a well-to-do advocate. Dev was the third of four sons born to Pishori Lal Anand. One of Dev's younger sister is Sheela Kanta Kapur, who is mother of Shekhar Kapur. His older brothers were Manmohan Anand and Chetan Anand and younger one was Vijay Anand. Dev Anand spent his early years in Gharota village near Gurdaspur, Gurdaspur town.

Purushottam Laxman Deshpande was a Marathi writer from Maharashtra, India. He was popularly known by his initials पु. ल. .... Deshpande was also an accomplished film and stage actor, music composer, harmonium player, singer, and orator. Purushottam Laxman Deshpande was born on 8 November 1919 in Gaodevi area in Mumbai to Laxman and Lakshmibai Deshpande.He belongs to the Saraswat Brahmin community. His family then moved to Vile Parle before finally Pu La Deshpande settled in Pune for educational and work purposes. Purushottam received his college education at Fergusson College in Pune and Willingdon College in Sangli. On 12 June 1946, he married Sunita Thakur, an accomplished author herself.They were both school teachers in Orient High School in Mumbai. She is most known for her book "Aahe Manohar Tari". She acted in some of his plays in the past. They had no children. It is also to be stated here that this was the second marriage for Purushottam whose first wife had died in a relatively short span of time after marriage.

He arrived in the United States in 1978, originally through a Rotary International program, attending Patagonia Union High School in Patagonia, Arizona, and then Dartmouth College, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in English in 1983. According to Boston Globe journalist Peter S. Canellos, in 1981, D'Souza published the names of officers of the Gay Student Alliance in an article for The Dartmouth Review, including the names of those who were still closeted. While at Dartmouth, D'Souza became the editor of a conservative monthly called The Prospect.

Zubin Mehta... was born into a Parsi family in Bombay, British India, the son of Mehli and Tehmina Mehta. His father Mehli Mehta was a violinist and founding conductor of the Bombay Symphony Orchestra. Mehta is an alumnus of St. Mary's School, Mumbai, and St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. Mehta initially intended to study medicine, but eventually became a music student in Vienna at the age of 18, under Hans Swarowsky. Also at the same academy along with Mehta were conductor Claudio Abbado and conductor–pianist Daniel Barenboim. Mehta's first marriage was to Canadian soprano Carmen Lasky in 1958. They have a son, Mervon and a daughter, Zarina. In 1964, they divorced. Two years after the divorce, Carmen married Zubin's brother, Zarin Mehta, now the Executive Director of the New York Philharmonic. In July 1969, Mehta married Nancy Kovack, a former American film and television actress. Mehta is a permanent resident of the United States, but retains his Indian citizenship.
