Mongol invasions progressed throughout the 13th century, resulting in the vast Mongol Empire which covered much of Asia and Eastern Europe by 1300.... The Mongol Empire emerged in the course of the 13th century by a series of conquests and invasions throughout Central and Western Asia, reaching Eastern Europe by the 1240s. The speed and extent of territorial expansion parallels the Hunnic/Turkic conquests of the Migration period . The territorial gains of the Mongols persisted into the 15th century in Persia and in Russia , and into the 19th century in India . Genghis Khan forged the initial Mongol Empire in Central Asia, starting with the unification of the Mongol and Turkic central Asian confederations such as Merkits, Tartars, Mongols, and Uighurs. He then continued expansion of the Empire via invasion of the Khwarezmid Empire in what is modern-day Khorazm, Uzbekistan. Large areas of Islamic Central Asia and northeastern Iran were seriously depopulated, as every city or town that resisted the Mongols was subject to destruction.

The Asian Development Bank is a regional development bank established on 22 August 1966 to facilitate economic development of countries in Asia. From 31 members at its establishment, ADB now has 67 members - of which 48 are from within Asia and the Pacific and 19 outside. At present, both the United States and Japan hold 552,210 shares, the largest proportion of shares at 12.756% each. China holds 228,000 shares , India holds 224,010 shares , the 2nd and 3rd largest proportion of shares respectively. The highest policy-making body of the bank is the Board of Governors composed of one representative from each member state. The Board of Governors, in turn, elect among themselves the 12 members of the Board of Directors and their deputy.

Delegates from many countries attended the Bretton Woods Conference.

The UN was founded in 1945 after World War II to replace the League of Nations, to stop wars between countries, and to provide a platform for dialogue. It contains multiple subsidiary organizations to carry out its missions. There are 193 member states, including every internationally recognised sovereign state in the world but Vatican City. From its offices around the world, the UN and its specialized agencies decide on substantive and administrative issues in regular meetings held throughout the year.

The Yangon Institute of Economics is the premier university of economics and business in Myanmar. Founded as the Department of Economics of Yangon... University in 1924, the institute became an independent university of higher learning in 1964. The institute offers undergraduate and graduate degrees and diplomas, mostly in commerce, statistics and economics. It is also the primary business school in the country, offering full-time, executive and online MBA degrees. The institute serves over 7000 undergraduate and graduate students over its three Yangon area campuses: the main campus in Kamayut in the city and satellite campuses in Hlaing, and Ywathagyi. The YIE began as Department of Economics under the Yangon University in 1924. The Department of Economics began offering commerce as a special subject in 1940, and courses in statistics in 1953. In 1955, a separate Commerce Department was established, and in 1956 a separate Statistics Department was established.

The university offers Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degrees and graduate studies degrees in medical science. The university is one of the most selective in the country, and accepts approximately 600 students annually based solely on their matriculation scores. University of Medicine, Mandalay is one of three schools in Burma recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. The University of Medicine, Mandalay began as a Branch Medical Faculty of Yangon University in 1954, which in 1958 became the Faculty of Medicine, Mandalay. In 1964, it became an independent Institute of Medicine, Mandalay, offering an undergraduate M.B.,B.S. program to a class of 36 students. Graduate programs began in 1968 with a master's degree program in physiology. Today university now offers a number of graduate diploma, master's, and doctoral programs.
