Myst

Atrus is the main fictional protagonist in the Myst series of books and computer games. He is a member of the ancient D'ni civilization and the... owner of Myst Island, for which the series is named. He is seen as one of the greatest Writers of Ages. He was named after his grandfather Aitrus . Born in 1755 to Gehn and Keta , Atrus was only 1/4 D'ni, the other 3/4 Human. He grew up with his grandmother Anna after his father had abandoned him at birth; his mother died in childbirth. Under Anna's guidance, Atrus grew into an inquisitive person, having deep respect for life and moral values. Anna also taught him the D'ni language and many stories from the empire, which he initially considered tales. When Gehn returned to claim his son, Atrus came with him to the ruins of D'ni, where his father taught him the Art of writing books that link to other worlds. This is where Atrus first not only realized how real D'ni actually was, but also that he was one of the last survivors of the fallen Empire.

Robyn Charles Miller co-founded Cyan Worlds with brother Rand Miller. After releasing a number of children's adventure "worlds", the brothers finally hit on a success with the computer game Myst, which remained the number one-selling game for the remainder of the 1990s. The brothers also acted out parts in the game, with Robyn as Sirrus and Rand as Achenar and Atrus. After finishing Riven, the sequel to Myst, and having worked for ten years in... the computer game industry, Miller left Cyan to pursue non-game interests. Toward that end, he formed a small production company named Land of Point. Miller is known for his contributions in the areas of direction and design, especially in the area of visual design—the look and feel of the Myst and Riven worlds. Richard Vander Wende, co-director and co-designer of Riven, was likewise responsible for orchestrating the visual language of that world. While at Cyan, Miller composed the soundtracks for both Myst and Riven. Most recently he has worked on a musical project named Ambo, with W. Keith Moore.

Sunsoft is a Japanese video game development company founded on April 16, 1971 as a division of Sun Corporation, itself a division of Sun Electronics, or Sun Denshi Corporation in Japan . Sunsoft's history in video games began in arcades with two video games released in 1978: Block Challenger and... Block Perfect. They later had several arcade hits in the early 1980s such as Arabian, Ikki and Kangaroo. In the latter half of the 1980s Sunsoft began developing original games and technology for the home video game console market, with emphasis mostly on the NES. Sunsoft had gone international at that time, and it had the publishing might to secure major licenses of the day . Outside Japan, the definite golden era for the company was the 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System , on which their games were widely considered state of the art in graphical and aural prowess.

Midway Games, Inc. is an American company that was formerly a major video game publisher. Following a bankruptcy filing in 2009, it is no longer active and is in the process of liquidating all of its assets. Midway's titles included Mortal Kombat, Ms. Pac-Man, Spy Hunter, Tron, Rampage, the... Cruis'n series, NFL Blitz and NBA Jam. Midway also acquired the rights to video games that were originally developed by Williams Electronics and Atari Games, such as Defender, Joust, Robotron 2084, Gauntlet and the Rush series. The company's predecessor was founded in 1958 as Midway Manufacturing, an amusement game manufacturer. In 1973 it moved into the interactive entertainment industry, developing and publishing arcade video games. The company scored its first mainstream hit with the U.S. distribution of Space Invaders in 1978. Midway was purchased and re-incorporated in 1988 by WMS Industries Inc. After many years as a leader in the arcade segment, Midway moved into the growing home video game market beginning in 1996, the same year that it made its initial public offering of stock. In 1998, WMS spun off its remaining shares of Midway.
