New Iberia

Shadows-on-the-Teche is an historic house and garden owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. It was built in 1831-1834... for sugarcane planter David Weeks and his wife Mary C. Weeks. A National Historic Landmark, the house is located in New Iberia, Louisiana. David and Mary Weeks were wealthy growers of sugarcane; they owned four plantations totalling approximately 3,000 acres of Acadiana land. The construction of Shadows-on-the-Teche coincided with the apogee of the Greek Revival style in United States architecture. When following this style, builders minimized the installation of superfluous decorative elements such as cornices, moldings, and trim. Decorations were severely limited and were designed to blend into and set off the building's brick construction. A simple porticoed facade of eight columns marks the exterior of the facade; the columns help to support a second-floor verandah. The mansion was furnished with Federal-style furniture and Empire-style furniture imported from the U.S. East Coast. Shadows-on-the-Teche was built on the edge of one of Weeks's sugarcane plantations in Iberia Parish, in the parish seat.

Kent Jude Bernard is an American film and television actor, also a photographer. Bernard was born Kent Jude Bernard, Jr. in New Iberia, Louisiana,... the son of Beth , a painter, and Kent Jude Bernard, Sr., who played guitar professionally for over forty years. Bernard was educated and trained at the Northwestern State University. Bernard has only recently appeared on four films, including Factory Girl, and Day of the Dead. He is currently working on the films Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds and Pulse 2: Afterlife.

Soko Richardson was an American rhythm and blues drummer. His career spanned almost fifty years, during which he performed and recorded with seminal... groups including John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and the The Ike & Tina Turner Revue. He is perhaps best known for his innovative arrangement of the Ike and Tina version of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, "Proud Mary". Born in New Iberia, Louisiana, Richardson began his musical career at the age of 16, when he left home to tour the South with local bands. Shortly thereafter Ike Turner, upon hearing Richardson play in Texas, hired him to play with his band, Kings of Rhythm, and then later with The Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Richardson worked with Turner for the next ten years. In March 1971 Richardson's arrangement of the Creedence Clearwater Revival song, "Proud Mary" reached number four on the pop charts, and number five on the R&B charts. The song became a signature song for Tina Turner, and won the band a Grammy for "Best R&B Vocal Performance By A Group.
