New London Ledge Lighthouse is a lighthouse in Connecticut, United States, on the Thames River, at the mouth of New London Harbor in Groton,... Connecticut New London Ledge Lighthouse was built in 1909 on the Southwest Ledge. It was originally called the Southwest Ledge light, but it was felt this could be confused with another lighthouse in New Haven, the Southwest Ledge Light, so in 1910 the lighthouse was renamed to New London Ledge Light. The United States Coast Guard took over in 1939 upon its merger with the Lighthouse Service and the light was automated in 1987. The original fourth order Fresnel lens was removed and was later put on display in the Custom House Maritime Museum. In 1990 the light was added to the National Register of Historic Places. New London Ledge is locally famous for the ghost of an early keeper, nicknamed "Ernie," who allegedly haunts the lighthouse. The Coast Guard crew on duty at the lighthouse, not automated until 1987, reported unexplained knockings taking place at night, as well as doors opening and closing repeatedly, the television turning on and off by itself sporadically, and the unexplained removal of sheets from beds.

New London Harbor Light is a lighthouse in Connecticut, United States, on the west side of the New London harbor entrance, Connecticut. It is the... nation's fifth oldest light station and the seventh oldest U.S. lighthouse; it is both the oldest and the tallest lighthouse in Connecticut. The original New London Harbor Lighthouse was built on the west side of the entrance to New London Harbor in 1760. It was removed when the current stone tower was built in 1801. In 1855 a fourth-order Fresnel lens replaced the original 11 lamps with 13-inch reflectors.

Monte Cristo Cottage, also known as Eugene O'Neill Summer House, was the summer home of acclaimed American actor James O'Neill, and of his family,... notably his son , Nobel prize-winning American playwright, Eugene O'Neill. In June 1884, the O'Neill family came to New London, Connecticut. James purchased two plots of land on Pequot Avenue for his wife Ella's 27th birthday. As a child, Eugene spent his winters traveling with his actor father, but spent his summers at this cottage in New London, Connecticut. The cottage was named for the play in which his father starred for many years. O'Neill probably wrote his first two plays here and it is the setting of his plays Ah, Wilderness! and Long Day's Journey into Night. Long Day's Journey into Night particularly reflects members of his own family in the home: characters are unfulfilled, resentful, often emotionally harmful toward one another. The house was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1971. The house is owned and operated by the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center as a historic house museum.

The Joshua Hempsted House, built in 1678, is a frame building in New London, Connecticut, and is one of New England’s oldest and... best-documented dwellings. Joshua Hempsted lived here his whole life, filling many roles, including farmer, judge, gravestone carver, shipwright, and father of nine children left motherless by his wife’s death in 1716. As a boy, Joshua lived in the house with his parents and 7 sisters. As a young husband and father, he shared the house with Abigail and their 9 children. Later in life, he was joined by enslaved African-American, Adam Jackson, some of his children, hired helpers, and 2 grandsons whom he raised. Joshua kept a diary for nearly 50 years prior to his own death in 1758. It is full of sometimes meaty, sometimes mundane, details of daily life in colonial Connecticut. The frame house reflects an English medieval style of building with its steeply pitched side gable roof, massive central chimney and cross gables; . A major addition was added in 1728 for Joshua’s son, Nathaniel and his family. It is more modern in style with different shingles and sash windows.

He and Christopher McCulloch are the co-creators, writers, and editors of the animated television series The Venture Bros. , in which Hammer voices several recurring characters including Billy Quizboy, Henchman 21, Doctor Girlfriend, and Dermott Fictel. The show is produced through Hammer and McCulloch's company Astro-Base Go. Hammer is also the singer, guitarist, and songwriter of the band Weep, which formed in 2008. Hammer was born in Ledyard, Connecticut. He adopted the pseudonym "Doc" in the mid-2000s.

Dawn Sherese Robinson is an American R&B/soul/Dance-pop singer best known for her work as the youngest member of hit Urban/Dance-pop group, En... Vogue. Robinson was born in New London, Connecticut. Following her departure from En Vogue in 1997, Robinson joined Lucy Pearl to record the only Lucy Pearl album released to date. After touring with Lucy Pearl, Dawn claimed she found out she was out of the group upon seeing the groups final video. The song featured Robinson's vocals but with new member Joi lip syncing Robinson's part. Robinson was then signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, and gave guest vocals on The Firm's hit song "Firm Biz" which sampled Teena Marie's classic single "Square Biz." After appearing on a few soundtracks, Robinson released a solo album entitled Dawn, released by Atlantic Records on 29 January 2002. The single "Envious" received moderate airplay on radio and video outlets. According to Sister2Sister magazine, Robinson said the album "tanked" due to "poor promotion.

Richard "Magic Dick" Salwitz was the harmonica player for The J. Geils Band. In addition to the harmonica, Salwitz plays the trumpet and saxophone.... He attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, where he met John "J" Geils and Danny Klein and became a founding member of The J. Geils Band in 1968. Salwitz's harmonica playing became a major and distinctive element in the J. Geils Band's sound during their hard-rocking 1970s heyday. Critics have described his performance of "Whammer Jammer" on the J. Geils Band's live album Full House as proof of his remarkable harmonica skill. To this day, aspiring harmonica players the world over attempt to emulate that musically challenging performance which several harmonicists have cited as the inspiration that started their interest in the instrument. Magic Dick's work on the six-minute jam "Detroit Breakdown" is a highlight of the J. Geils Band 1974 album Nightmaresand Other Tales from the Vinyl Jungle.
