Newport is a city in Lincoln County, Oregon, United States. It was incorporated in 1882, though the name dates back to the establishment of a post office in 1868. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 9,989, an increase of nearly 13% over its 2000 population; an unofficial 2006 estimate listed Newport's population at 10,240 residents. Newport is the county seat of Lincoln County. It is also the home of the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Nye Beach, Yaquina Head Lighthouse, and Rogue Ales. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.4 square miles ,... of which 8.9 square miles is land and 4.0 km² is water. Newport has mild, wet weather throughout the year with the heaviest precipitation falling during the winter months. Annually, there is only 0.4 day with maximum temperatures of 90 °F or higher. There are 20.5 days with minimum temperatures of 32 °F or lower. The record high temperature was 100 °F on June 24, 1925, and July 11, 1961. The record low temperature was 1 °F on December 8, 1972.
