The Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of the eleven schools comprising Northwestern University, located in... Evanston, Illinois and downtown Chicago, Illinois. It was established in 1851 and today comprises 25 departments and many specialty programs. WCAS enrolls students in its classes from all of Northwestern's undergraduate schools, including the Medill School of Journalism, School of Music, McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science, School of Communication, and School of Education and Social Policy. All faculty members at Weinberg teach undergraduate students. About 3 percent of student enrollments are in courses taught exclusively by teaching assistants, mostly in small introductory courses in foreign languages; all other courses are taught by professors.. The number of men and women at Weinberg is about equal; 30 percent of undergraduates belong to racial or ethnic minorities. Students also come from all 50 states; Illinois is the home of the largest number of students, followed by California, Ohio, and New York. Seven percent of Weinberg students are from foreign countries.

The Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications is a constituent school of Northwestern University which offers both... undergraduate and graduate programs. It has consistently been one of the top-ranked schools in Journalism in the United States. Medill has produced journalists and political activists including thirty-eight Pulitzer Prize laureates, numerous national correspondents for major networks, and many well-known reporters and columnists. Northwestern is one of the few schools embracing a technological approach towards journalism. Medill received Knight Foundation grant to establish the Knight News Innovation Laboratory in 2011. The Knight Lab is a joint initiative of the Medill and the McCormick School of Engineering at Northwestern, one of the first to combine journalism and computer science. The Medill School was founded in 1921 and named after Joseph Medill , owner and editor of the Chicago Tribune, which was then run by his grandsons Robert R. McCormick and Joseph Medill Patterson. The journalism program offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees.

Originally founded as the medical department of Lind University on October 11, 1859 and renamed the Chicago Medical College in 1863, the school affiliated with Northwestern University in 1870. The Northwestern University School of Law is a private American law school in Chicago, Illinois. The law school was founded in 1859 as the Union... College of Law of the Old University of Chicago. The first law school established in Chicago, it became jointly controlled by Northwestern University in 1873 and fully incorporated into the University in 1891. Located in the near north side's Streeterville, it is one of the eleven academic institutions of Northwestern University. The law school was ranked 12th by the 2012 Edition of US News and World Report guide to the nation's top law schools. Northwestern Law is located on Northwestern University's downtown campus in Chicago's Streeterville/Gold Coast neighborhood. The law school is on Lake Shore Drive and Chicago Avenue, adjacent to Lake Shore Park and Lake Michigan. It is a few blocks from the John Hancock Center, Magnificent Mile, Water Tower, Oak Street Beach and Navy Pier. On March 22, 2012 U.S. News & World Report included the law school in its list of "10 Law Schools That Lead to the Most Debt.". According to the same article, the average indebtedness of the law school graduates is $139,101.

The Northwestern University School of Communication is an undergraduate and graduate institution devoted to the academic study of communication arts... and sciences, located on Northwestern University's campus in Evanston, Illinois, about 12 miles north of downtown Chicago. The School has its origins in 1878 when a Department of Elocution was established in the College; it later became the School of Oratory, essentially a privately owned and operated institution. The School of Oratory became the School of Speech in 1921, and then became the School of Communication in 2002.

Richard Benjamin is an American actor and film director. He has starred in a number of productions, including Goodbye, Columbus , based on the... novella by Philip Roth, and Westworld , and directed, among other films, the 1982 film My Favorite Year. Benjamin was born in New York City, New York, the son of a garment industry worker. He attended the High School of Performing Arts and graduated from Northwestern University, where he was involved in many plays and studied in the Northwestern theater school. He married actress Paula Prentiss on October 26, 1961; and they have two children. They appeared together in the short-lived television series He & She and the film Catch-22 . In 1978, he starred in the ambitious, but short-lived, television series Quark. Benjamin starred in Goodbye, Columbus , based on the novella by Philip Roth. After appearing with a star-studded cast in the Mike Nichols film version of another best-seller, Catch-22, he starred in Diary of a Mad Housewife, The Marriage of a Young Stockbroker, and yet another film based on a famous Roth novel, Portnoy's Complaint , in the title role.

He is the sixth best selling writer of all time. Sheldon was born Sidney Schechtel in Chicago, Illinois. His parents, of Russian Jewish ancestry, were Ascher "Otto" Schechtel , manager of a jewelry store, and Natalie Marcus. At 10, Sidney made his first sale, $5 for a poem. During the Depression, he worked at a variety of jobs, and after graduating from Denver East High School, he attended Northwestern University and contributed short plays to drama groups. He is the author of 18 novels , over 200 television scripts, 25 major motion pictures and 6 Broadway plays. In 1937 Sheldon moved to Hollywood, California, where he reviewed scripts and collaborated on a number of B movies.

John David Logan is an American playwright, screenwriter, and film producer. Logan was born in San Diego on September 24, 1961. His parents... emigrated to the US from Northern Ireland via Canada. The youngest of three children, he has an older brother and sister. Logan grew up in California and New Jersey, before moving to Chicago to attend Northwestern University, where he graduated in 1983. He is openly gay. Logan was a successful playwright in Chicago for many years before turning to screenwriting. His first play, Never the Sinner, tells the story of the infamous Leopold and Loeb case. Subsequent plays include Hauptmann, about the Lindbergh baby kidnapping, and Riverview, a musical melodrama set at Chicago's famed amusement park. His play Red, about artist Mark Rothko, was produced by the Donmar Warehouse, London in December 2009, and on Broadway, where it received six Tony Awards in mid-June, 2010, the most of any play, including best play, best direction of a play for Michael Grandage and best featured actor in a play for Eddie Redmayne.

Sir John Anthony Pople, KBE, FRS, was a Nobel-Prize winning theoretical chemist. Born in Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset, England, he attended Bristol... Grammar School. He won a scholarship to Trinity College, Cambridge in 1943. He received his B. A. in 1946. Between 1945 and 1947 he worked at the Bristol Aeroplane Company. He then returned to Cambridge University and was awarded his doctorate degree in mathematics in 1951. He moved to the United States of America in 1964, where he lived the rest of his life, though he retained British citizenship. Pople considered himself more of a mathematician than a chemist, but theoretical chemists consider him one of the most important of their number. His scientific contributions are in four different areas: His early paper on the statistical mechanics of water, according to Michael J. Frisch, "remained the standard for many years. This was his thesis topic for his Ph D at Cambridge supervised by John Lennard-Jones. In the early days of nuclear magnetic resonance he studied the underlying theory, and in 1959 he coauthored the text book High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance with W.G. Schneider and H.J.

Roger Bruce Myerson is an American economist and Nobel laureate recognized with Leonid Hurwicz and Eric Maskin for "having laid the foundations of... mechanism design theory." A professor at the University of Chicago, he has made contributions as an economist, as an applied mathematician, and as a political scientist. Roger Myerson was born on March 29, 1951 in Boston to a Jewish family. He attended Harvard University, where he received his A.B., summa cum laude, and S.M. in applied mathematics in 1973. He completed his Ph.D. in applied mathematics from Harvard University in 1976. His doctorate thesis was A Theory of Cooperative Games. From 1976 to 2001, Myerson was a professor of economics at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, where he conducted much of his Nobel-winning research. From 1978 to 1979, he was Visiting Researcher at Bielefeld University. He was Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago from 1985–86 and from 2000–01. He became Professor of Economics at Chicago in 2001. Currently, he is the Glen A. Lloyd Distinguished Service Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago.

Dale Thomas Mortensen is an American economist. He received his B.A. in economics from Willamette University and his Ph.D. in Economics from... Carnegie Mellon University. He is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity. He has been on the faculty of Northwestern University since 1965 and a professor of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences at the Kellogg School of Management since 1980. He is also the Niels Bohr Visiting Professor at the School of Economics and Management, Aarhus University, from 2006 to 2010. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics jointly along with Christopher A. Pissarides from the London School of Economics and Peter A. Diamond from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2010 "for their analysis of markets with search frictions". In May 2011, Mortensen was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree from his alma mater, Willamette University. He is married to Beverly Mortensen, also a Northwestern Professor. Mortensen's research focuses on labor economics, macroeconomics and economic theory. He is especially known for his pioneering work on the search and matching theory of frictional unemployment.

Garry Wills is a prolific Pulitzer Prize-winning author, journalist, and historian, specializing in American history, politics, and religion, as... well as the history of the Roman Catholic Church. Wills has written nearly forty books and since 1973 has been a frequent reviewer for the New York Review of Books. He joined the faculty of the history department at Northwestern University in 1980, where he is currently an Emeritus Professor of History. Wills was born in Atlanta, Georgia and grew up in Michigan and Wisconsin, graduating from Campion High School, a Jesuit institution, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in 1951. He entered and then left the Jesuit order. He earned a B.A. in philosophy from Saint Louis University in 1957 and an M.A. from Xavier University in 1958. Both his B.A. and his M.A. were in philosophy. William F. Buckley, Jr. hired him as a drama critic for National Review magazine at the age of 23. He received his PhD in classics from Yale University in 1961, and taught history at Johns Hopkins University from 1962 to 1980. Wills has been married to Natalie Wills since 1959: she was the stewardess on his first flight on an aeroplane.
