The Lou Henry and Herbert Hoover House, located on the campus of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, USA, is the former house of Herbert... Hoover, 31st President of the United States, and his wife Lou Henry Hoover, who designed it. It is now the official home of the president of Stanford. Prior to the end of World War I, the Hoovers had commissioned architect Louis Christian Mullgardt to design their Stanford Home; however, Mullgardt publicized his appointment prior to the end of the war, angering the Hoovers, who felt that it was an inopportune time in the waning months of a terrible conflict to announce the construction of a large home. Mullgardt was summarily dismissed. After several consultations the Hoovers convinced Arthur B. Clark, a Stanford art professor who practiced freelance architecture during the summer, to be their architect. Clark agreed on the condition that Mrs. Hoover design the house and that Clark, aided by architectural draftsman Charles Davus and Clark's architect son, Birge, would serve in an advisory capacity. Oliver Martin Johnston, Jr. was an American motion picture animator. He was one of Disney's Nine Old Men, and the last surviving at the time of his... death. He was recognized by The Walt Disney Company with its Disney Legend Award in 1989. His work was recognized with the National Medal of Arts in 2005. He was an animator at Walt Disney Studios from 1935 to 1978, and became a directing animator beginning with Pinocchio, released in 1940. He contributed to most Disney animated features, including Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fantasia and Bambi. His last full work for Disney came with The Rescuers, in which he was caricatured as one of the film's characters, the cat Rufus. Johnston co-authored, with Frank Thomas, the reference book Disney Animation: The Illusion of Life, which contained the 12 basic principles of animation. This book helped preserve the knowledge of the techniques that were developed at the studio. The partnership of Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston is fondly presented in the documentary Frank and Ollie, produced by Thomas' son Theodore.

Jamie Michelle Luner is an American television actress, best known for her role as Lexi Sterling on Melrose Place and Rachel Burke on Profiler.... Luner has played the role of Liza Colby on the ABC soap opera, All My Children from April 2009 until September 2011. Luner was born in Palo Alto, California, the daughter of Susan, an actress, and Stuart Luner, a sales representative. She was raised in a Jewish family and has an older brother. After guest starring in several episodes of the sitcom Growing Pains, Luner went on to star as sexy-if-scatterbrained Cindy Lubbock in the GP spinoff Just the Ten of Us which also starred Heather Langenkamp, Brooke Theiss and Jo Ann Willette as Luner's fictional sisters; the foursome comprised a fictional singing group, "The Lubbock Babes". To date, Luner is the only one of the four who has not appeared in a Nightmare On Elm Street movie. Luner also guest starred in a Halloween episode of Growing Pains in which she portrayed a vanishing hitchhiker. Luner returned to television in 1993 in the TV movie, Why My Daughter?, starring opposite Linda Gray.

Robert L. Manahan was an American actor. He was most recognized for being the voice of Zordon in the latter two and a half seasons of the Mighty... Morphin Power Rangers TV Series. He also portrayed Zordon in Power Rangers Zeo, Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie, and several episodes of Power Rangers Turbo and Power Rangers in Space. He had also done voice-over projects for other TV shows. In honor of his death, episode 21 of Power Rangers: Lightspeed Rescue was dedicated in his memory.

Richard Woodhams is an American oboist and recording artist. He is currently Principal Oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Professor of Oboe at... the Curtis Institute of Music. At the age of sixteen, Woodhams was accepted by the Curtis Institute and began study with John de Lancie. Immediately following his graduation in 1969, he won the position of Principal Oboe with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He assumed the position of principal oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1977, succeeding his teacher. He succeeded de Lancie as oboe instructor at the Curtis Institute in 1986. He is faculty member at the Aspen Music Festival and has taught at the Luzerne and Sarasota Music Festivals, among others. Currently, he gives weekly private lessons to the four oboe students at Curtis, and holds weekly wind classes. Woodhams's teachers include Raymond Dusté, John de Lancie, John Mack, Robert Bloom, and Jean-Louis LeRoux.

Brian Martin is an American luger who competed from 1990 to 2010. Competing in four Winter Olympics, he won two medals in the men's doubles event... with a silver in 2002 and a bronze in 1998. Martin also won nine medals at the FIL World Luge Championships with two silvers and seven bronzes . Martin won the overall Luge World Cup men's doubles title three times . He announced his retirement on 17 March 2010.

Michio Kaku is an American theoretical physicist, the Henry Semat Professor of Theoretical Physics in the City College of New York of City... University of New York, the co-founder of string field theory, and a "communicator" and "popularizer" of science. He has written several books about physics and related topics; he has made frequent appearances on radio, television, and film; and he writes extensive online blogs and articles. Kaku was born in San Jose, California to Japanese immigrant parents. His grandfather came to the United States to take part in the clean-up operation after the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake. His father was born in California but was educated in Japan and spoke little English. Both his parents were put in the Tule Lake War Relocation Center, where they met and where his two brothers were born. At Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, Kaku assembled an atom smasher in his parent's garage for a science fair project. At the National Science Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he attracted the attention of physicist Edward Teller, who took Kaku as a protégé, awarding him the Hertz Engineering Scholarship.

Bill Kreutzmann is an American drummer who played with the rock band the Grateful Dead for their entire thirty-year career. Recently he has been... playing shows with his own bands BK3 and 7 Walkers which also features guitarist Papa Mali. Kreutzmann started playing drums at the age of 13, despite having been told by his sixth grade music teacher that he couldn't keep a beat. As a teenager, he met Aldous Huxley at his high school, who encouraged him in his drumming. At the end of 1964 he co-founded the band The Warlocks, along with Phil Lesh, Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, and Ron "Pigpen" McKernan. Their first real gig was May 5, 1965, two days before Kreutzmann's nineteenth birthday. During the band's early days, Kreutzmann sometimes used a fake draft card with the name "Bill Sommers" to be admitted to bars where the band was playing, since he was underage. In November 1965, the Warlocks became the Grateful Dead. Meeting fellow percussionist Mickey Hart in the fall of 1967 would have a big impact on Kreutzmann's career. Hart soon joined the Dead, making it one of the first rock bands to feature two drummers.

Marjorie Armstrong "Markie" Post is an American actress, best known for her roles as bail bondswoman Terri Michaels in The Fall Guy on ABC from 1982... to 1985, as public defender Christine Sullivan on the NBC sitcom Night Court from 1985 to 1992, and as Georgie Anne Lahti Hartman on the CBS sitcom Hearts Afire from 1992 to 1995. Born in Palo Alto, California, Post is the daughter of scientist Richard F. Post. She grew up in Walnut Creek, California, and attended Las Lomas High School where she was a cheerleader. She later earned her Bachelor of Arts from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Prior to acting, Post worked on several game shows. She began her career with the production crew of the Tom Kennedy version of Split Second. She also served as associate producer of Alex Trebek's Double Dare and as a card dealer on the NBC Jim Perry version of Card Sharks. Post often was a celebrity player on various game shows, including Pyramid and Password. Her early acting credits include two episodes of The A-Team as two different characters in the 1983 episode "The Only Church in Town" and the 1984 episode "Hot Styles", respectively.

Pamela Anne Melroy is a retired United States Air Force officer and a former NASA astronaut. She served as pilot on Space Shuttle missions STS-92... and STS-112 and commanded mission STS-120. Melroy received a bachelor's degree in physics and astronomy from Wellesley College in 1983. She then earned a master's degree in earth and planetary sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1984. On May 18, 2008 Melroy received an honorary degree from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. Melroy was commissioned through the Air Force ROTC program in 1983. After completing a master’s degree, she attended Undergraduate Pilot Training at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, Texas and was graduated in 1985. She flew the KC-10 for six years at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, Louisiana, as a copilot, aircraft commander and instructor pilot. Melroy is a veteran of Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, with over 200 combat and combat support hours. In June 1991, she attended the Air Force Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

She was raised in the Christian Science faith. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Irving attended the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, where she appeared in several of its productions.
