The courthouse was built in 1899 by... local contractors Caldwell & Drake, according to the plans of architect L. W. Thomas of Canton, Ohio, replacing an earlier courthouse. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 for its architectural significance.

Spurlock was the executive producer and star of the reality television series 30 Days. Spurlock was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, and was raised in Beckley, West Virginia. He was raised a Methodist. He went to New York University and graduated in 1993 and is a member of the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta. Spurlock has stated that he is of Scottish and Irish descent. Spurlock attended Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, West Virginia, graduating in 1989. He graduated with a BFA in film from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 1993. Before making the 2004 Academy Award nominated Super Size Me, Spurlock was a playwright, winning awards for his play The Phoenix at both the New York International Fringe Festival in 1999 and the Route 66 American Playwriting Competition in 2000. He also created I Bet You Will for MTV.

Dooley was a cartoonist as a youth and drew a strip for a local paper in Parkersburg. He joined the Navy before discovering acting while at college. He is married to writer Winnie Holzman, with whom he has one daughter, Savannah Dooley . Moving to New York, he soon found success as a regular on the stage. Also having an interest in comedy, Dooley was a standup comedian for five years, and a member of the Compass Players and The Second City troupe in NYC, as well as having brief stints as a magician and as a clown. Not afraid of trying different areas of entertainment, he also worked as a writer. He was one of the writers on The Electric Company, which the character Paul the Gorilla was named after, and appeared in commercials. Besides appearing in many movies, including most notably Popeye, Sixteen Candles, Breaking Away, and the voice of Sarge in the Disney/Pixar film Cars and its sequel Cars 2.

Gary Michael Null is an American talk radio host and author on alternative and complementary medicine and nutrition. On his talk radio show and in... his books and self-produced movies, Null has criticized the medical community, promoted a range of alternative cancer treatments and dietary supplements, and questioned the link between HIV and AIDS. In 2010, Null reported that he had been poisoned and nearly killed by ingesting one of his own dietary supplements, "Gary Null's Ultimate Power Meal". Null sued a contractor involved in producing the supplement, alleging that it contained more than 1,000 times the dose of vitamin D reported on the label, leading to the hospitalization of Null and six other consumers with vitamin poisoning. Null was raised in Parkersburg, West Virginia, with his two brothers. He holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science degree from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, New Jersey. He received a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Union Institute & University, a private distance-learning college in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Walter Lee Barnes born January 26, 1918 in Parkersburg, West Virginia died January 6, 1998 in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, was an... American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at Louisiana State University as was an actor in both American and European films. He appeared in several films with John Wayne, Lex Barker and Clint Eastwood. Barnes earned his nickname of "Piggy" from catching a piglet when a boy. Playing football at Parkersburg High School, he was on the unbeaten 1938 team and played in the 1939 North-South Game. Following military service in World War II as a US Army Sergeant he enrolled in Louisiana State University where he became not only a football player but a college weightlifting champion. Following graduation he joined the Philadelphia Eagles football team as a guard before retiring and becoming a coach of football teams of Columbia University and Arizona State University. He was inducted into the Coaches' Association Hall in June 2010. Barnes entered acting through after appearing several times on The Eagles Nest a local Philadelphia TV show.

Patrica Parsons , better known as Patsy Parsons, sometimes credited as Patsy Lee Parsons, was an American character actress who appeared in about a... dozen films beginning in 1937 at the age of six. Ms. Parsons was born in Parkersburg, W.Va,. but moved to Hollywood at age 5. She is best remembered for her 1954 TV role as the evil space tyrant "Cleolanthe" in Rocky Jones, Space Ranger. Like many child stars, she experienced great difficulty in graduating to adult roles, with a typical appearance being an uncredited bit part in a Martin and Lewis film. One of her bigger child parts was in Yankee Doodle Dandy starring James Cagney. Parsons retired shortly after leaving Rocky Jones, Space Ranger, making one last TV appearance on Science Fiction Theater in 1956. However, life did not end for Ms. Parsons as she began a new career as the wife of banker and community activist Solon Soteras. As Pat Soteras, she worked at Pepperdine University and raised three children, Alexander, Nickoletta and Anthony. She also wrote a weekly column for the Malibu Times.
