The College of Earth and Mineral Sciences is a constituent, semi-autonomous part of Penn State University, University Park, Pennsylvania. The College... was founded in 1896 as a School of Mines, but, over time, diversified becoming the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. The college has five departments: Energy and Mineral Engineering, Geography, Geosciences, Materials Science and Engineering, and Meteorology. The Department of Energy and Mineral Engineering, as of fall 2007, now offers an undergraduate program in energy engineering, the first of its kind in the country. The College also includes The Alliance for Earth Science, Engineering, and Development in Africa , The Energy Institute, The Earth and Environmental Systems Institute , The John A. Dutton e-Education Institute, and The Peter R. Gould Center for Geography and Outreach. It is currently the smallest college at the University Park campus. Five current staff members contributed to the efforts of the IPCC that won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.

The College of Information Sciences and Technology, also known as IST, was opened in 1999 in response to the rapidly growing need in almost every... field for leadership in information sciences and technology. The college was built to help develop a new generation of leaders that would meet the complex and compelling demands of the Digital Age. The College of Information Sciences and Technology was created in 1997. Dean of the Graduate School, Rod Erickson, was appointed by Penn State President Graham Spanier to lead a strategic planning group that produced plans for the school of information sciences and technology which admitted the first students into the IST program for the fall 1999 semester. In January 2006, Penn State Board of Trustee decided to rename the School of Information to College of Information Sciences and Technology – a designation that signified IST’s importance within both the Penn State system and the Commonwealth. The Information Sciences and Technology Building is located on the west campus of the Pennsylvania State University’s University Park campus.

The Schreyer Honors College is the honors program of the Pennsylvania State University. Founded in 1980 as the University Scholars Program, it was... expanded and renamed in 1997 in response to a $30 million gift by William and Joan Schreyer. Schreyer, was one of three honors colleges, along with those at Arizona State and Mississippi, to be listed by Reader's Digest in its "America's 100 Best" list published in May, 2005. The current Dean is Christian M. M. Brady. On November 17, 2006, the Schreyers pledged an additional gift of $25 million to the Schreyer Honors College. Having contributed more than $58 million to Penn State, they were the largest family donors in the school's history, prior to the recent donation of $88 million from Terry and Kim Pegula for a new arena. The mission of the Schreyer Honors College is to promote: Schreyer Honors College Vision: Enrollment in the Schreyer Honors College is limited to a total of 1800 students, and requirements for freshman entrance include excellent high school grades, several essays, strong extracurricular activities, and teacher references.

Douglas A. Anderson has been a professor of journalism and dean of the college since 1999. Undergraduate Majors There has been a new joint program that combines both the Film-Video major with the Mechanical Engineering major from the Penn State's College of Engineering. Students enrolled in this major are classified as Film Engineers. Currently only one student is enrolled in this new program. The first of the colleges established at Pennsylvania State University, the College of Agricultural Sciences awarded the nation’s first... baccalaureate degrees in agriculture in 1861. With 12 academic units and 67 cooperative extension offices, one in each of Pennsylvania’s counties, the college is widely recognized as one of the nation's premier institutions for agricultural research and education programs. In 1855, before the College of Agriculture Sciences, it was a high school known as The Farmer's High School run by Evan Pugh. Pugh help transform the Farmer's High School into the College of Agriculture Sciences by supporting Congress to pass the Morrill Land-Grant Act in 1863. As a result, government receives money from the sales of land to help fund a college that would teach people better farming methods. At the time, College of Agriculture Sciences was the only land-grant institution in the state of Pennsylvania. In addition to learning farming methods, Pugh had contributed other subjects to the college including chemistry, geology, mathematics, and mineralogy.

Penn State Harrisburg, also called The Capital College, is an undergraduate college and graduate school of the Pennsylvania State University. The... main campus of Penn State Harrisburg is located in Lower Swatara Township, 9 miles south of Harrisburg. The campus enrolls over 4,000 students and offers two associate, 34 baccalaureate, 24 master's, and three doctoral degrees as well as certificate and certification programs. The Penn State Eastgate Center opened in 1991 in downtown Harrisburg and maintains 4 classrooms, 1 microcomputer lab, administrative offices and a student lounge. State agencies such as the Pennsylvania Securities Commission, Pennsylvania Municipal Retirement System as well as hearing rooms for workers compensation also occupy space in the building. Both traditional academic and continuing education courses are offered throughout the year. The Eastgate Center is home to the e-Commerce Center, which delivers business and technology related training to thousands of area residents each year.

Hershey Medical Center, located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, 10 miles east of Harrisburg, is Penn State’s medical school and... academic medical center, and is the only medical school and university hospital in Pennsylvania located outside the urban areas of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, with the exceptions of Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie and the Commonwealth Medical College located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In 1963, the M. S. Hershey Foundation offered $50 million to the Pennsylvania State University to establish a medical school and teaching hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania. With this grant and $21.3 million from the U.S. Public Health Service, the University built a medical school, teaching hospital, and research center. Ground was broken in 1966 and Penn State's College of Medicine opened its doors to the first class of students in 1967. Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center accepted its first patients in 1970. The original buildings at Penn State Hershey Medical Center included the Medical Science Building and medical center, Animal Research Farm, Laundry and Steam Plant, and University Manor Apartments.

Penn State Abington is a commonwealth campus of the Pennsylvania State University. Located approximately 15 miles north of Center City Philadelphia,... Pennsylvania, United States in the Abington section of Abington Township, it is set in 45 acres wooded, which include a duck pond and stands of hardwood trees. The 3,250 undergraduate students are taught by a full-time faculty staff of 107 professors, with the average class size being 24 students. Students participate in a wide variety of activities and many types of intramural and intercollegiate sports. Several degree options are available at Penn State Abington. Students may complete the first two years of any of 160 Penn State baccalaureate programs at the Abington campus, and then change assignment to the University Park campus of Penn State to complete their degree. Two associate degree programs, 16 baccalaureate degree programs, and continuing education programs designed for adult students are also available. Graduate degree programs are not offered at Penn State Abington. The athletics program has been accepted into a three-year provisional NCAA Division III status.

Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate Professional Studies is a special mission campus graduate school of the Pennsylvania State University,... located in Malvern, 20 miles northwest of Philadelphia in the United States. Academic programs include education, engineering, MBA, and management. Classes are geared toward working adults, and meet evenings and Saturdays in seven and fourteen week sessions. Penn State Great Valley, founded in 1963 to provide graduate engineering programs to employees of local businesses, was housed in a rented school building in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and was known as the King of Prussia Graduate Center. Education programs were added in the late 1960s and, in 1974, the center began offering courses off-site at area businesses. In 1978, the center moved to an old elementary school building in Radnor, Pennsylvania. In 1982 the center moved back to King of Prussia and became the King of Prussia Center for Graduate Studies and Continuing Education. In 1987, the university acquired 8.5 acres within the Great Valley Corporate Center in Malvern, Pennsylvania.

Jack Raphael Ham, Jr. is a former American Football linebacker who played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is considered one of the greatest outside... linebackers in the history of the NFL. Ham was born and raised in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where he attended Bishop McCort High School. He continued his education at Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, Virginia for a post-graduate season. Ham played college ball at Penn State. In his three years as a starting linebacker, the Nittany Lions had records of 11-0, 11-0, and 7–3. In his senior year, 1970, Ham was co-captain, had 91 tackles, four interceptions, and was an All-American. He had 251 career tackles, 143 unassisted. He blocked three punts in 1968, setting a school record that was not tied until 1989. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1990. Ham was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second-round of the 1971 NFL Draft. He won the starting left linebacker job as a rookie. He was first-team All-Pro six years and was named to eight straight Pro Bowls.

Rao has been honored by numerous colloquia, honorary degrees, and festschrifts and was awarded the US National Medal of Science in 2002. The American Statistical Association has described him as "a living legend whose work has influenced not just statistics, but has had far reaching implications for fields as varied as economics, genetics, anthropology, geology, national planning, demography, biometry, and medicine." The Times of India listed Rao as one of the top 10 Indian scientists of all time. C R Rao was born in Hadagali, Karnataka, India. He received an MSc degree in mathematics from Andhra University and an MSc degree in statistics from Calcutta University in 1943. Rao worked at the Indian Statistical Institute and the Anthropological Museum in Cambridge before acquiring a Ph.D. degree at King's College in Cambridge University under R.A. Fisher in 1948, to which he added a Sc.D.

Nina Vsevolod Fedoroff is an American professor at Penn State university known for her research in life sciences and biotechnology. She received in... 2006 the National Medal of Science in the field of Biological Sciences, the highest award for lifetime achievement in scientific research in the United States. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated summa cum laude in 1966 from Syracuse University with a dual major in biology and chemistry. She received her PhD in 1972 from The Rockefeller University. Fedoroff has been honored with the Howard Taylor Ricketts Award from University of Chicago in 1990. In 1997 Fedoroff received the John P. McGovern Science and Society Medal from Sigma Xi. Fedoroff arrived at Penn State in 1995 and founded and directed the organization now known as the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. In 2002, she was appointed an Evan Pugh professor, the university's highest academic honor. She currently holds the Verne M. Willaman chair of Life Sciences. President George W. Bush appointed Fedoroff to the National Science Board, which oversees the National Science Foundation, in 2001.

Bruce Weigl is an American contemporary poet who teaches at Lorain County Community College. Weigl enlisted in the United States Army shortly after... his 18th birthday and spent three years in the service. He served in the Vietnam War from December 1967 to December 1968 and received the Bronze Star . When he returned to the United States, Weigl obtained a bachelor's degree from Oberlin College, and a Master of Arts Degree in Writing/American and British Literature from the University of New Hampshire. From 1975-76, Weigl was an instructor at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio. Weigl's first full-length collection of poems, A Romance, was published in 1979. After he received a Ph.D. from the University of Utah in 1979, he was an assistant professor of English at the University of Arkansas and later held the same position at Old Dominion University. Weigl additionally served as the president of the Associated Writing Programs. During the 1980s, Weigl published two more poetry collections, The Monkey Wars and Song of Napalm.
