PlaceWare was founded in 1996 as a spin-off from Xerox PARC by Pavel Curtis, the founder of LambdaMOO, Mike Dixon, David Nichols, Richard Bruce, and Bob Krivacic. In 2003, Microsoft acquired PlaceWare and renamed its core product Microsoft Office Live Meeting.
