Poltava

Oleksiy Butovsky Vorskla Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Poltava, Ukraine. It is currently used mostly for football matches, and is the home of... FC Vorskla Poltava. The stadium holds 28,000 people. It was built in 1974 and has undergone several reconstructions after, most notably in 2000, when the facade of the stadium was renovated and in 2008, most notable feature of the restoration was the installation of a coloured screen. The renovation was done for Ukrainian Super Cup, which was played at the stadium. The cup has travelled outside of Odessa for the first time due to renovation works at Chornomorets Stadium, the annual venue for the title game.

Mykola Vitaliiovych Lysenko was a Ukrainian composer, pianist, conductor and ethnomusicologist. Lysenko was born in Hrynky, Kremenchuk Povit,... Poltava Governorate, the son of Vitaliy Romanovich Lysenko . From childhood he was very interested in the folksongs of Ukrainian peasants and by the poetry of Taras Shevchenko. When Shevchenko's body was brought to Ukraine after his death in 1861, Lysenko was a pallbearer. During his time at Kiev University, Lysenko dedicated himself to collecting and arranging Ukrainian folksongs, which were published in seven volumes. One of his principal sources was the kobzar Ostap Veresai . Lysenko initially studied Biology at the Kharkiv University, studying music privately. On a scholarship given to him by the Russian Music Society he pursued further professional music studies at the Leipzig Conservatory. It is there that he understood the importance of collecting, developing and creating Ukrainian music rather than duplicating the work of Western classical composers.
