Martin Lewis Perl is an American physicist, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1995 for his discovery of the tau lepton. His parents were Jewish... emigrants to the US from the Polish area of Russia. Perl is a 1948 chemical engineering graduate of Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn. He received his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1955, where his thesis advisor was I.I. Rabi who won the Nobel Prize in Phyics for 1944 . He spent his career at the University of Michigan and then at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center . While at Michigan, Perl and Lawrence W. Jones served as co-advisors to Samuel C. C. Ting, who earned the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1976. He has currently joined University of Liverpool as a visiting professor. He also serves on the board of advisors of Scientists and Engineers for America, an organization focused on promoting sound science in American government. In 2009, Perl received an honorary doctorate from the University of Belgrade.

James Truslow Adams was an American writer and historian. He was not related to the famous Adams family . He was not an academic, but a freelance... author who helped to popularize the latest scholarship about American history and his three volume history of New England is well regarded by scholars. Born to a wealthy Yankee family in Brooklyn, New York, Adams took his bachelor's degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1898, and a MA degree from Yale University in 1900. He entered investment banking, rising to partner in a New York Stock Exchange member firm. In 1912, he considered his savings ample enough to switch his to a career as a writer. In 1917, he served with Colonel House on President Wilson's commission, "The Inquiry", to prepare data for the Paris Peace Conference. By 1918, he was a Captain in the Military Intelligence division of the General Staff, US Army. By late 1918, he was selected for the US delegation to the Paris Peace Conference.

Judea Pearl is an Israeli American computer scientist and philosopher, best known for championing the probabilistic approach to artificial... intelligence and the development of Bayesian networks . He is also credited for developing a theory of causal and counterfactual inference based on structural models . He is the 2011 winner of the ACM Turing Award, the highest distinction in computer science, "for fundamental contributions to artificial intelligence through the development of a calculus for probabilistic and causal reasoning." Judea Pearl is the father of journalist Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by militants in Pakistan connected with Al-Qaeda and the International Islamic Front in 2002 for his being American and Jewish. Judea Pearl was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, in 1936 and received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technion in 1960. In 1960 he came to the United States and received a masters degree in Physics from Rutgers University, U.S. and a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, U.S., in 1965.

Norman Lamm is a major American Modern Orthodox rabbi, scholar, author and Jewish communal leader. He is presently the Chancellor of Yeshiva... University. He holds a Ph.D. in Jewish Philosophy and was the third President of Yeshiva University , the first to be born in the United States. He was a disciple of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik , who ordained him at the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary in 1951. In his youth, Lamm attended the Haredi Mesivta Torah Vodaath in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. At Yeshiva College he obtained a degree in chemistry in 1949, at which he excelled. He was the secular studies valedictorian of his class. He also attended a secular postgraduate college, the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn. He considered a career in science, but was persuaded by Rabbi Dr. Samuel Belkin, the second President of Yeshiva University , to join the faculty at YU.
