The Phillips Mansion is a Second Empire style historic house in Pomona, Los Angeles County, California. It was built in 1875 by Louis Phillips, who... by the 1890s had become the wealthiest man in Los Angeles County. Situated along the Butterfield Stage route, the Phillips Mansion became a center of community activity in the Pomona and Spadra area. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, making it among the first 25 sites in Los Angeles County to be so designated. The Phillips Mansion was built in 1875 by Louis Phillips . Phillips was born in Prussia and moved to California in the early 1850s. He moved to Spadra in 1862 and began engaging in sheep herding and cattle raising. In 1864, he purchased 12,000 acres of the old Rancho San Jose for $30,000. In 1867, he married Esther Blake, with whom he had three sons and two daughters .

La Casa Primera de Rancho San Jose is a historic adobe structure built in 1837 in Pomona, California. It is the oldest home located in the Pomona... Valley and in the old Rancho San Jose land grant. It was declared a historic landmark in 1954 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in April 1975. The Rancho San Jose was created out of land seized from the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel in 1834 as part of the Mexican government's decree of secularization. In 1837, Mexican Governor Juan Bautista Alvarado granted the land to Ygnacio Palomares and Ricardo Vejar. The Rancho, covering 15,000 acres to 22,000 acres and much of eastern Los Angeles County, was operated by Palomares and Vejar as a sheep and cattle ranch. After receiving the land grant, Palomares built his initial adobe homestead in 1837 on land that is now part of Pomona. The simple five-room adobe, which is known as the Casa Primera, was the first home in the Pomona Valley and was built in the Mexican adobe style with thick walls made of adobe brick. Palomares and his family lived at the Casa Primera for approximately seventeen years.

The Ygnacio Palomares Adobe, also known as Adobe de Palomares, is a one-story adobe in Pomona, California, built between 1850 and 1855 as a residence... for Don Ygnacio Palomares. The adobe was abandoned in the 1880s and was left to the elements until it was acquired by the City of Pomona in the 1930s. In 1939, the adobe was restored in a joint project of the City of Pomona, the Historical Society of Pomona Valley and the Works Project Administration. Since 1940, the adobe has been open to the public as a museum on life in the Spanish and Mexican ranchos. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Of the more than 400 sites in Los Angeles County that have been listed on the National Register, fewer than ten received the distinction prior to the Ygnacio Palomares Adobe. The Ygancio Palomares Adobe, built between 1850 and 1855, was once the center of the sprawling 22,000-acre Rancho San Jose. The Rancho San Jose consisted of land taken from the Mission San Gabriel in 1834 as part of the Mexican government's secularization decree.

La Casa Alvarado, also known as the Alvarado Adobe, is a historic adobe structure built in 1840 and located on Old Settlers Lane in Pomona,... California. It was declared a historic landmark in 1954 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The Casa Alvarado is located on a portion of the 22,000-acre Rancho San Jose granted to Ygnacio Palomares and Ricardo Vejas in 1837. In 1840, Palomares invited his close friend, Ygnacio Alvarado, to live on the ranch and gave him a plot of land near Palomares' own home, La Casa Primera de Rancho San Jose. The land was given to Alvarado with the stipulation that Alvarado would build a chapel in his home to be used for church services when padres visited from the Mission San Gabriel Arcángel. The large 18-foot by 42-foot living room of the Casa Alvarado was used for church services for 45 years. The Alvarado adobe's living room was also the site of the first public school classes in the Pomona Valley, starting in 1870 or 1871. For more than 120 years, the house had only three owners. It remained in the Alvardo family from 1840 to 1886, when it was purchased and occupied by Dr. Benjamin S.

Thomas was born in 1952 in Pomona, California, and is the oldest of six children. Thomas received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. While at Evergreen, he supported himself as a licensed painting contractor and carpenter. In 1977, Thomas worked as a carpenter on a 75-foot ketch under construction in Antibes, France. Thomas also logged many nautical miles sailing a 43-foot wooden sloop from England to San Francisco via the Panama Canal, Galapagos Islands, Marquesas, and Hawaii. He moved to Massachusetts in 1980. William Todd Field, known professionally as Todd Field is an American actor and writer/director. He has received three Academy Award nominations.... Field was born in Pomona, California, where his family ran a poultry farm. When Field turned two his family moved to Portland, Oregon, where his father went to work as a salesman, and his mother became a school librarian. At an early age he became interested in performing sleight-of-hand and later music. A budding jazz musician, at the age of sixteen Field became a member of the Big Band at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon. Headed by Larry McVey, the band had become a proving-ground and regular stop for Stan Kenton and Mel Tormé when they were looking for new players. It was here Field played trombone alongside his friend, trumpeter and future Grammy Award-nominee, Chris Botti. Field graduated with his class from Centennial High School on Portland's eastside and briefly attended Southern Oregon State College in Ashland on a music scholarship, but left after his freshman year favoring a move to New York to study acting.

When he reached adolescence in the late 1970s, he became attracted to the punk rock music scene.
